Life (Is So Strange)

LP (Item 478583) RCA, 1983 — Condition: Sealed
War is one of those groups that really kept on going greatly, long after folks seem to remember – a group who changed their sound nicely with the times, and never seemed to lose their original sense of soul! This set's light years from their earlier heavy funk, but still wonderful work overall – a redefinition of their groove into some laidback modes that make for some especially nice stepping moments! It's hard to pin down the exact sound they're going for – as there's a bit of dub, a bit of club, a bit of keyboards, and even some darker spots too – but the sound is compelling and funk-tinged throughout, and almost even fresher than the rest, given the absence of any big hits. Titles include "U2 Medley", "Shaking It Down", "Life Is So Strange", "Happiness", and "WWIII Medley".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great follow-up to War's first Music Band album – and proof that the group was still plenty darn funky at the end of the 70s! War did the music for this funky soundtrack to an early Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs film, and although most of the stuff on here is just typical War stuff, there's one track called "Flying Machine" that's a long funky chase scene-type track that's worth the price of the album alone! Nice mid 80s UK pop soul from Five Star – sweet family act that's kind of in the mode that's a bit of an unofficial British answer to the cheery family pop soul vibe of groups like DeBarge and New Edition at the time – and a sweet one!
