Hollywood Party Tonight

LP (Item 411261) RCA, 1978 — Condition: Very Good+
A Hollywood Party, recorded in New Jersey – with a groove that's every bit as tight as any of Odyssey's best records, but with a slightly jazzier vibe as well! The set's a great example of the way the trio pushed the 70s soul game further – taking the early 70s RCA AM radio style, and moving it forward with some elements from the club generation – but all at a level that was never throwaway disco either! The record's got a really rich feel from the start – and uses some great jazzy session players to flesh out the group's vocals in a wonderful way. Arrangements are by Sandy Linzer, who co-produced with Charlie Calello – and although there's some obvious disco fullness here, the main focus is on midtempo tunes that glide along in a slightly mellow way – almost like work by Side Effect from the time. Titles include "Lucky Star", "Single Again", "I Dare Ya", "Comin Back For More", "Hey Bill", and "What Time Does The Balloon Go Up".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve! Cover has a cutout notch.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ready For Love
RCA, 1980. Very Good+
A killer set from a group that never lets us down – stepping out here in a sound that's more modern, more mature than their hit work of the 70s – yet still filled with all the sublime harmony soul we'd expect from the trio of Tony Silvester, Cuba Gooding, and Luther Simmons! Michael Wycoff

Come To My World
RCA, 1980. Very Good+
A perfect example of the kind of sophisticated groove he had right from the start of his legendary run on RCA – the kind of vibe that maybe kept Wycoff off the charts at the time, but which has made him a favorite on the underground scene for years! Keyboards play a big part in the sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Samba Soul

Do It
RCA, 1978. Very Good+
The second album from Samba Soul – and like the first, a nice combination of 70s disco with some strong influences from Brazilian music! Most tracks are covers – "Sometimes When We Touch", "I'm In You", or "Eyes On The Sparrow", which is probably the best ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band
RCA, 1976. Very Good+
One of the most creative club acts of the 70s – the mighty Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band! Before starting his Kid Creole & the Coconuts combo, August Darnell worked to great fame with Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band – kind of a campy, jazzy ensemble – one that ... LP, Vinyl record album

That Old Feeling
RCA, 1966. Sealed

Pointer Sisters

Contact
RCA, 1985. Near Mint-
The Pointer Sisters in their slick, sultry pop soul mode of the mid 80s – at this point doing the synthesizer soul sound as well as ever – with big hooks and more subtle stylistic flourishes in the production! The Pointers were on one heck of a commercial win streak at this point, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1973. Near Mint-

RCA, 1987. Very Good+
An overlooked gem from Diana Ross' 80s years – a record that's quite different than her Motown music of the 60s and 70s, but in a way that really shows the singer stepping out and trying something new! The album's maybe more soulful than some of Diana's previous albums – thanks to work ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1975. Near Mint-
An excellent LP by one of the most underrecognized talents of 70's soul! DJ's deep soul voice is smooth and mellow, with the kind of honest heartbreaking quality that you find in the best work by Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. This great LP's got DJ in a nice set of arrangements that have a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Westbound, 1975. Near Mint-
A killer compilation – one that's every bit as wild and wooly as the famous image on the cover! Minnie
Capitol, 1979. Near Mint-
