Rainbow Visions

LP (Item 8521) Fantasy, 1978 — Condition: Very Good+
More great jazzy stepping grooves from this Fantasy band. Wayne Henderson's still at the helm on production, and there's some nice cuts, including "I'm A Winner", and the mellow "She's A Lady", plus "Peace Of Mind", "Falling In Love Again" and the title track.  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Checkmates Ltd

We Got The Moves
Fantasy, 1977. Very Good+
A decent enough album by the Checkmates – like many of their records, one that's done in very very good form vocally, but which lacks a certain something to really send it over the top. Fortunately, Phil Hurtt arranged the vocals on the set, and he brings a smooth modern feel to the record ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ear Wax/Wonderland, 1978. Sealed
An obscure little funky group from Flint, Michigan, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the ... Jimmy Castor Bunch

It's Just Begun
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
Wickedly fuzzy funk! Jimmy Castor recorded in a lot of different styles during the 70s – but the one he used on this album is still his best – and the album may well be his lasting testament of funky genius! The record's a non-stop guitar-heavy batch of classic funk tracks – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hot Wax, Early 70s. Very Good-
An excellent batch of hard soul grooves from the great Laura Lee! This one was her first for the Hot Wax label – and it's got the raw quality of her earlier singles for labels like Chess, with a hard vocal style that's very much in the Aretha Franklin/Fontella Bass camp – plus some ... LP, Vinyl record album
A&M, 1976. Very Good+
One of the best albums ever by LTD – featuring some wonderful early vocals by Jeffery Osborne, and stellar production by the team of Larry and Fonce Mizell! The Mizell Brothers sound a lot different here than they do on their Blue Note work – more deeply soulful, with a sound that's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Gordy, 1983. Near Mint-
One of the crown jewels of the Rick James empire – back when he had an empire! Stone City Band were a slap-bass modern soul combo, with a definite 80s groove sound that had strong ties to James' own funky style. Their best moments on here, though, are actually the mellower ones – as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miracles

Do It Baby
Motown, 1974. Very Good-
It's the mid 70s, and The Miracles have been deserted by Smokey – but fortunately the group was extremely well trained in the harmony department, and this album's just about as good as anything they did with him on Motown! The record's got an excellent smooth harmony soul style – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Crown Heights Affair

Do It Your Way
De-Lite, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
A record that ended up in more than a few 70s record collections because of its sexy cover image – but a set that's even better when you get down into the grooves – thanks to massively funky work from Crown Heights Affair! The group are wonderful here – upbeat and quick-stepping, ... LP, Vinyl record album

KC & The Sunshine Band

KC & The Sunshine Band
TK, 1975. Near Mint-
Massive massive Miami funk – and a record that seems to sound better and better as the years move on! Sure, KC and crew were a chart-topping act, but this first album's a stellar batch of heavy cuts – featuring great instrumentation on clavinet, conga, guitars, and horns – all ... Earl Van Dyke

Earl Of Funk
SOUL, 1970. Very Good
Fierce funky instrumentals from Motown keyboardist Earl Van Dyke – a set that's overflowing with great original tracks, plus some sweet funky covers too! The style here is quite different than Earl's previous work – and quite different from most of Motown too – with a hard-edged ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Double Image
Moon (France), 1969. Near Mint- 2LP
Mind blowing! This is a 2 LP version of a live set from 1969, recorded in Paris with Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette. The sound on here is crazy, and goes waaaay out – farther out than anything we've ever heard by Miles. At times, the tracks break down ... LP, Vinyl record album
