More great jazzy stepping grooves from this Fantasy band. Wayne Henderson's still at the helm on production, and there's some nice cuts, including "I'm A Winner", and the mellow "She's A Lady", plus "Peace Of Mind", "Falling In Love Again" and the title track. (Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear & a promo stamp.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Side Effect
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good+ (reissue)
Side Effect's first album on Fantasy – a wonderful record that's partly soul, partly jazz vocals – and put together with a wickedly funky undercurrent, thanks to the talents of the mighty Wayne Henderson! Side Effect were way more than just another 70s harmony group – as their ... LP, Vinyl record album
Stand Up
Fantasy, 1980. Very Good+
Smooth funky soul, with a nice mid-tempo club groove to it. Lots of popping basslines and rolling instrumental lines, with cheery vocals by Larry and the band. James and Butch Ingram wrote a lot of tracks, and pitched in instrumentally, and the album includes the cuts "Party After ... LP, Vinyl record album

Collectables, 1967/Mid 80s. Very Good+ (reissue)
Great reissue of this excellent bit of Chicago female soul, performed by the great Ruby Andrews, and with arrangements by some of the best local talents in the city. Ruby sang with a voice that was pure deep soul, but she had arrangements that were in the best Chicago tradition of the time. The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Flying Start
Fantasy, 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
Not the band's first album – as you might think from the "start" in the title – but a classic batch of jazzy, funky, and soulful grooves from The Blackbyrds – one of those combos that few groups could match back in the 70s! The set's got a beautifully put-together feel ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hi Records, 1972. Very Good-
A damn great bit of work from the legendary Al Green – maybe one of his best records ever – and in fact, maybe one of greatest soul albums of all time! The set's got a style that's really genre-defining – not the previous southern soul of a few years before, but also not the ... LP, Vinyl record album
A&M, 1978. Very Good
Jeffrey Osborne's really emerging strongly here in the mellow soul mode – especially on the album's two great ballad cuts, "Concentrate On You" and "We Both Deserve Each Other", both of which are smooth mellow steppers with a modern soul approach that's slightly less ... LP, Vinyl record album
Express Yourself
Warner, 1970. Good
A masterpiece of messed-up LA funk – and one of the crowning moments in the career of Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band! Charles and crew do an excellent job with all the tracks – most of which are more open ended than some of their earlier ones, and run on for ... LP, Vinyl record album
City Life
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
A fantastic album from this legendary jazz funk combo – a bit smoother than their first, but that's the great thing about it! The record has the band getting even tighter than before – coming up with an amazing jazz-inflected funk groove that still leaves us breathless after all these ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bitch Is Black
Tamla, 1975. Very Good+
Heavy heavy funk from the mighty Yvonne Fair – a 70s bad soul sister that we'd rank right up there with Betty Davis! Yvonne got her start working with James Brown in a sweeter mode, but by the time of this mid 70s debut, she'd hit a really hard-wailing sort of style – one that had the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philadelphia International, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
Killer stuff from this legendary Philly soul instrumental combo – with funky soul horns, unstoppable dancefloor ready rhythms and those soul-stirring strings – and right up there with their best ever! Bobby Martin arranged almost every track – and the record's a great example of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Drive, 1976. Very Good-
Heady funk from the glory days of the Miami soul scene in the 70s – the second smoking album by the group named after the city! The sound here is a bit tighter than before, but in a good way – a style that has the group's core funk energy mixed with some added strings and horns from ... LP, Vinyl record album
Softouch
Fantasy, 1978. Very Good+
The one and only release by this quartet of female singers – an album that's done in a weird style that's part disco, and part overly bass-heavy funk, an approach that doesn't really let the ladies hit their loveliest mode, and which has they rushing the lyrics a bit to keep up with the ...
