Playground

LP (Item 548066) ECM, 1980 — Condition: Very Good+
One of Steve Kuhn's amazing collaborations with vocalist Sheila Jordan! Although Kuhn's a pianist at heart, he always seems to have an ear for singers – especially at this time in his career, when both his playing and his compositions gave such new inspiration to a 70s decade of vocal experimentalists. Jordan's definitely at the forefront of that generation, and works here beautifully with Kuhn's piano – in a group that also includes Harvie Swartz on bass and Bob Moses on drums. Most tunes are relatively spare, and build up with a great sort of sensitivity – and titles include "Deep Tango", "The Zoo", "Life's Backward Glance", and "Gentle Thoughts".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

ECM, 1973. Near Mint- 3LP Box Set
Sublime solo piano – from that early 70s moment when Keith Jarrett was not only finding a whole new voice for himself, but also creating a whole new format in music! The tracks here are all long, live, solo improvisations – played by Jarrett at a level that's unbridled, but never ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gary Burton & Chick Corea

Duet
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
Genius work from the team of Chick Corea on piano and Gary Burton on vibes – both players who were already making a lot of magic in the 70s, but who really seem to explode in the company of each other! Burton's tones are wonderfully bold and firm – these cascading colors that merge ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keith Jarrett

My Song
ECM, 1978. Near Mint-
A really beautiful album – quite different than the solo or trio material by Keith Jarrett for ECM in the 70s – as the group is a quartet, with Jan Garbarek on soprano and tenor sax, Palle Danielsen on bass, and Jon Christensen on drums. LP, Vinyl record album
ECM, 1982. Near Mint-
A beautifully rich session from bassist Gary Peacock – one that draws equal energy from his three associates on the date – all of whom did some great ECM Records work on their own! Peacock composed the tunes, and his spacious notes on bass provide the core setting – but the album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

American Garage
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-

Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny Group
ECM, 1978. Near Mint-
A near-legendary album from Pat Metheny – the real birth of the "Metheny sound" on record, and a perfect example of the magically fluid groove that he crafted with keyboardist Lyle Mays! The sound here is hard to describe – and even harder when you try to pick out the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

New Chautauqua
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
A completely solo album from Pat Metheny – but one that still sparkles with the same sort of energy as his fuller group sessions for ECM! Richard Beirach

Eon
ECM, 1974. Near Mint-
One of our favorite 70s albums from pianist Richie Beirach – a set that has this wonderfully flowing energy – almost a more forceful take on the ECM sound of the 70s, yet still a bit warmer than some of Beirach's other work too! The group's a trio – with Frank Tusa on bass and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny

Offramp
ECM, 1982. Sealed
A really wonderful little record from Pat Metheny – quite possibly our favorite by the man, thanks to some really inventive sounds that still resonate strongly in the groove scene today! Gil Evans

Svengali
Atlantic, 1973. Near Mint-
A great example of the way that Gil Evans really opened up his groove in the 70s – moving here way way past the cool jazz and third stream of earlier years – into a soulful style that's far groovier than might be expected! Part of the strength of the set is because of the players ... LP, Vinyl record album
