LP, Vinyl record album

What can we say? We winced at this one back when it came out, but over the years, it's got a real "Free Soul" appeal to us – with vocals that are surprisingly soulful in parts, some nice 80s mellow soul instrumentation, and even a few hooks that are real guilty pleasures. Includes the smooth grooving "I Can't Go For That", plus "Mano A Mano", "Did It In A Minute", "Head Above Water", "Your Imagination", and (ugh) "Private Eyes". (Includes the printed inner sleeve.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Feliciano!
RCA, Late 60s. Very Good
An amazing record! By all rights, this shouldn't be so good – but it's an incredible album of haunting tracks that really has us coming back again and again over the years. The formula is simple: Jose plays late 60s pop tunes on acoustic guitar, and sings them in his spacey soulful voice. ... LP, Vinyl record album
Super Hits
RCA, 1976. Very Good+
A tasty collection of work from the second era of the Main Ingredient – after the death of original member Donald McPherson, and during the time when Tony Silvester was leaving the group to work on his ill-planned solo career. Cuba Gooding Sr is lead vocalist on all tracks – and the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Half & Half
RCA, 1977. Near Mint-
Disco with a bit of drama – mid 70s work from Vicki Sue Robinson, produced with a sense of sweetness on most tracks, but a bit of bite on a few others! The best moments are sort of pop disco – straightforward, with Vicki's vocals in the lead – and other titles have a slightly ... LP, Vinyl record album
Come To My World
RCA, 1980. Near Mint-
A perfect example of the kind of sophisticated groove he had right from the start of his legendary run on RCA – the kind of vibe that maybe kept Wycoff off the charts at the time, but which has made him a favorite on the underground scene for years! Keyboards play a big part in the sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
Do It
RCA, 1978. Very Good+
The second album from this Brazilian-tinged disco combo – not as great as the first one, but still with some nice moments. Many of the tracks are pop covers – like "Sometimes When We Touch", "I'm In You", or "Eyes On The Sparrow", which is probably the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Souled
RCA, 1969. Very Good
Jose Feliciano really lives up to the title here – stepping out strongly with the same style used on his "California Dreamin" hit – a massive blend of strings, soul, and Jose's unique vocal approach! Feliciano came out of the Latin market in the 60s, but by the time of this ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1966. Very Good
A posthumous collection of material that Sam recorded for RCA before his untimely death – not really a greatest hits collection, but a lot better than the usual "house cleaning" type of record that gets issued in this sort of situation! Arrangements are by Stan Applebaum, Jimmie ... LP, Vinyl record album
10 To 23
RCA, 1969. Very Good
A groovy record from Jose – with his best kind of crossover feel! It's an unusual title – one that refers to the first track on the record, recorded by Jose Feliciano at age 10 – and the rest of the material included, done when Jose was 23 years old. It's a mixture of American ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bag Full Of Soul
RCA, 1966. Sealed
Great early work from Jose Feliciano – and definitely the "bag full of soul" promised in the title, as the album's got a wonderfully heartfelt feel all the way through! Jose's voice is warm and beautifully melodic, and the arrangements are a bit more straight ahead than on later ... LP, Vinyl record album
Finesse
RCA, 1984. Very Good+
Classic RCA soul from Glenn Jones – exactly the sort of record that made him a real standout back in the 80s! The set's got a nice little bounce, but it's quite far from chart soul – more in the direction of some of that great underground soul of the time, bubbling under with bits of ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1974. Very Good+
Hard funky soul from The New Birth – still sounding pretty raw at this point, and with that funky group ensemble feel that you'll hear on their best early albums! The tracks have plenty of nice guitar and clavinet work, and a shifting lead vocal approach that's pretty great on most cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album
You're The Best
RCA, 1981. Sealed
A really wonderful album from Keni Burke – recorded around the same time as his classic Changes set, and in some ways even better than that record! The set's got a fantastic mellow soul feel – lots of tracks that are uptempo, but which manage to hang onto a soulful finish that really ... LP, Vinyl record album
