Equinox

LP (Item 9707) A&M, 1968 — Condition: Very Good+

The second album by Sergio and crew – and a real push forward for the group! The basic format of two-female harmony leads is still in place – but for some reason, this album gives a bit more of a nod to Brazilian roots than before, and really spices things up with an even more interesting array of songs! There's a bit less of the pop/cover style than before, and a bit more of a nod towards the hipper side of Brazilian music – especially the modernists of the bossa nova generation. Brazilian tunes include versions of "Constant Rain", "Cinnamon & Clove", "Bim Bom", and "Wave" – and there's also a few nice English numbers, like their hit version of "Night & Day", and a great reading of "Watch What Happens"!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo tan label pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Virgin Land
Salvation, 1974. Near Mint-
A great little fusion set from Airto – recorded in a mode that's a great bridge between his acoustic roots and some of his smoother albums in years to come! No Embalo Do Samba
Imperial (Brazil), 1966. Very Good-
Wonderful bossa and samba grooves – with a hip edge that reminds us a lot of Ed Lincoln's best records from the time – no surprise, since Falcao is actually Brazilian organist Walter Wanderley, working under another name! Cyro Monteiro e Dilermando Pinheiro

Teleco Teco Opus No 1
Philips, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A wonderful album of lively sambas peformed by one of the greatest singers of the pre-bossa era! Cyro's in fine form in this live set from the 60s, and he's performing here with Dilermando Pinheiro in a choppy style that's recorded with a lot of soul, and some good echoey production. One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! A pretty darn amazing album from Thelma Houston – recorded during the zenith of Jimmy Webb's career, when Jimmy was not only one of the hippest songwriters in pop, but also kind of a mini-Burt Bacharach, writing, arranging, and conducting albums for a variety of stars.
