cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Way past the hits, and into some really great territory – a move that makes the record one of our favorite Sergio Mendes sets for A&M! The sweeter bossa pop style here is undercut with a bit more influence from late 60s Brazilian grooves – some of the more baroque turns that Sergio' ... LP, Vinyl record album
Warmly mellow grooves from Azymuth – a set that nicely lives up to the "Flame" in the title – and which shows the strengths the trio picked up during their years in the US! The sound here is round and soulful – a great fusion of the group's roots in the 70s Brazilian ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautiful record by Bola Sete, and probably one of his best. The great John Fahey produced this set for his Takoma label, and his history with the acoustic guitar lets him get all of these beautiful tones and sounds out of Bola's playing that are often missed on other recordings. The set includes ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wicked early work from Azymuth – one of the albums that the group recorded when they were really starting to take off on the global scene – burning strong with a soulful fusion vibe, lots of Brazilian rhythm currents, and always hitting all the right notes in their music! The sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
An album that not only broke the bossa big in the US – but a set that also really helped transform the sound of the organ in jazz! Not only is the record a key meeting of bossa rhythms and jazz organ – transplanted hugely to the US after a big initial Wanderley run in 60s Brazil – ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! The record features beautifully understated arrangements by Joao Donato, Don Sebesky, and Claus Ogerman – and the instrumentation is a haunting mix of bossa rhythms with darker orchestrations that ... Excellent early work by Hermeto – recorded in the US with a jazzy, fusiony finish – right around the same time as Dom Um Romao's albums for Muse and Cobblestone! The group here features a host of American jazz players, set to complicated yet grooving arrangements by Airto – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very cool album recorded by Luiz Bonfa in the US, with cool electric arrangements by Deodato, and a sound that's unlike anything else he's ever done! Some tracks even get downright funky, and there's a nice break or two on here, if you're the type that digs for that sort of thing. Titles include ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the most righteous albums that Max Roach ever cut – and a monumental jazz release from the heart of the Civil Rights era! As you can guess from the cover and title, there's a very political bent to the record – served up in righteous lyrics penned by Oscar Brand Jr, and sung by ... LP, Vinyl record album
Great stuff! Tania Maria's first few years recording in the US were some of her best – and this excellent groover on Picante features some very tight Brazilian jazz tracks, cut with a small combo of west coasters, and produced by Cal Tjader with a smooth jazzy vibe. The overall sound is ... LP, Vinyl record album
