Everything Is Possible! – Best Of Os Mutantes

LP (Item 704064) Luaka Bop, Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: Near Mint-
An essential introduction to the work of this legendary group – an important American issue of some of their best material – all of which never came out in our market back in the day! If you don't know Os Mutantes, prepare to be blown away – as they were a key part of the Tropicalia movement, alongside bigger names Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Gilberto Gil – creating music that was years ahead of its time, but which has gone on to become legendary over the years! There's so many different elements going on here, it's impossible to pin down – avant and psychedelic modes, Brazilian styles and postmodern ones, all put together with sublime production that's also way ahead of the pack! This Luaka Bop presentation was put together by David Byrne – and it features a total of 14 cuts in all – including an English and Portuguese reading of the famous "Baby", plus the tunes "Ave Lucifer", "Desculpe, Babe", "Adeus Maria Fulo", "Panis Et Circensis", "Bat Macumba", "Dia 36", and "Fuga No II".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(2011 RSD issue. Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Os Mutantes (1968)
Polydor (Brazil), 1968. Near Mint-
A landmark album from late 60s Brazil! This is the first – and the wildest – album by this legendary group that was one of the founding forces of the Tropicalia movement – a brilliant musical statement that easily ranks with some of the most groundbreaking late 60s American work ... LP, Vinyl record album
A&M, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold
The first (and maybe only) American release by one of the greatest Brazilian singer/songwriters of the sixties – and a record that's quite different than any Sergio Mendes work of the time, despite Sergio's name in the title! The vibe is like Lobo's best of Brazil from the late 60s – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Astrud Gilberto

Shadow Of Your Smile
Verve, 1965. Very Good
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! Doris Monteiro & Miltinho

Doris Miltinho e Charme
Odeon (Brazil), 1970. Very Good+
A great late bossa album – one of the EMI/Odeon gems from the lovely Doris Monteiro! Nana Caymmi & Cesar Camargo Mariano

Voz E Suor
EMI (Brazil), 1983. Very Good
A warm intimate set by these two legendary Brazilian talents – Nana Caymmi on vocals, and the legendary Cesar Camargo Mariano playing some wonderfully mellow keyboards. Azymuth

Flame
Milestone, 1984. Near Mint-
Warmly mellow grooves from Azymuth – a set that nicely lives up to the "Flame" in the title – and which shows the strengths the trio picked up during their years in the US! The sound here is round and soulful – a great fusion of the group's roots in the 70s Brazilian ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Minha Voz
Polygram (Brazil), 1982. Near Mint-
Great stuff from Gal – even if the record is a lot smoother than her earlier work! The record's got a light jazzy style – like a lot of Gal's other work from the time – but this actually works quite well for her lovely voice, especially on the more intimate numbers. Titles ...
