$14.99 ...

LP, Vinyl record album

(€12.70 || £11.36 || ¥1691) (approx.)

Solo piano work from Kenny Barron – with tracks that include "Maiden Voyage", "Little Niles", "Passion Dance", and "Spiral". (UK pressing.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Golden Lotus
Muse, 1982. Very Good+
A great Kenny Barron side for Muse, one of the best from a label that has a lot of remarkable sleepers! Like the best Muse sides, this set does a great job of straddling the line between forward looking modal playing and relaxed soul jazz, combining the best elements of both. And as you might ... Imagine This
Elektra, 1983. Very Good+
A smooth jazzy classic from Pieces Of A Dream – and a real standout from the early 80s scene! The core trio of Curtis Harmon on drums, James Lloyd on keys, and Cedric Napoleon on bass are produced by Grover Washington with a fuller feel than usual – taking the piano trio approach of ... Jazz Composers Orchestra Plays Numatik Swing Band
JCOA, 1973. Near Mint-
Roswell Rudd leads the Jazz Composers Orchestra, which includes (on this session) Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, Enrico Rava, Sheila Jordan, Beaver Harris, and Sirone. Some of the material's a bit loose for our taste, but there's some nice tracks like the excellent "Circulation", which has ... LP, Vinyl record album
Preach Brother
Blue Note, 1962. Very Good
An excellent album by this lusty tenor player – and one of the rarest Blue Notes ever! Brother Don plays lean and mean, in a nice tight group that features Grant Green on guitar, Sonny Clark on piano, and Billy Higgins on drums – all of whom give Wilkerson a freer setting than he ever ... Cherry
CTI, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the best CTI albums from the early 70s – and one of Stanley Turrentine's funkiest records as well! The album's got a sharper edge than most other Turrentine albums of the time – a quality that goes beyond Stan's already soulful approach to the tenor, and which brings in some ... Juicy Lucy
Beehive, 1979. Sealed
A great return to form for guitarist Sal Salvador – a player who didn't always get that much time in the spotlight in the 70s, until a big wave of fresh exposure from the Beehive label! Sal got his start in the Stan Kenton group, where he learned a great sense of color and phrasing – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Pyramid
Fantasy, 1974. Very Good
One of Cannonball Adderley's excellent moody electric albums from the early 70s – with a stripped down vibe that's really nice, made even better by sweeeet production by David Axelrod! The set's got great keyboard work by George Duke and Hal Galper – both working in a spare, subtle ... LP, Vinyl record album
Feels So Good
Kudu, 1975. Very Good
An incredible batch of electric funk from Grover Washington Jr – easily one of his best albums ever! The record really picks up from the sweet CTI sound of the 70s – taking Bob James arrangements with a lot of space and electric keyboards, and letting Groover blow some wonderfully ... Inflated Tear
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint-
A landmark album from Roland Kirk – one of his key 60s sides for Atlantic records, and an amazing blend of soul jazz, hardbop, and freer thinking styles! Roland's playing an insane assortment of horns on the set – often at the same time, if you know his 3-way style of blowing – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Night At Count Basie's
Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good-
Rare album of organ jazz by the lost Perri Lee trio. Lee was another one of the great female organists around in the early 60's – like Shirley Scott or Rhoda Scott – and she just wails in this live set recorded at Count Basie's nightclub in Harlem. A big added bonus on this album is ... LP, Vinyl record album
Inner City, 1976. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
One of Sun Ra's best non-Saturn live sets of the 70s – a nice little record that shows the group mixing it up with equal parts avant garde and straight ahead jazz, all handled in that ever-growing large group style that made them a real force to be reckoned with in a concert setting! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mellow Madness
A&M, 1973. Very Good
A really great, oft-overlooked album from the best period of Quincy Jones! This album is quite possibly Quincy's most farthest-reaching – as he works in an array of styles that really shows his growing genius in the studio – not just jazz and soundtrack modes, but more soul-based ones, ...
