Evening Of Magic – Live At The Hollywood Bowl

LP (Item 600969) A&M, 1979 — Condition: Sealed
2LP Gatefold
Great live versions of "Feels So Good", "Chase The Clouds Away", "Land Of Make Believe", "Hill Where The Lord Hides", and more!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chuck Mangione

Chase The Clouds Away
A&M, 1975. Sealed
A great one from that period when Chuck Mangione was mixing his sublime flugelhorn sound with some well-crafted larger ideas – served up with a core combo that features Chuck on Fender Rhodes as well as his horn, plus Chip Jackson on bass, Joe LaBarbera on drums, and Gerry Niewood on soprano, ... Chuck Mangione

Alive!
Mercury, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold

Wes Montgomery

Road Song
A&M/CTI, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
Beautifully lofty work from the great Wes Montgomery – a set that was recorded quite late in his too-short career, and really points the way towards some of the sophisticated sounds that might have followed, had Wes not left this planet all too soon! Don Sebesky is at the head of the charts ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ornette Coleman

Dancing In Your Head
Horizon/A&M, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the few standout 70s sessions by Ornette Coleman – a wonderfully rhythmic record that shows Ornette's expanding musical vision at the time! Most of the record is dominated by the guitar-heavy "Theme From A Symphony" – a very harmelodic number that takes up all of side ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wes Montgomery

Day In The Life
CTI/A&M, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
Mindblowing! This is when Wes Montgomery really starts to get interesting to us – when he's working with a top-line arranger like Don Sebesky, crafting some incredibly compelling chords over lightly jazzy arrangements and soaring strings, in a whole new mode of expression that would go onto ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Fortune

Waves Of Dreams
A&M/Horizon, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
A really wonderful album by Sonny Fortune – recorded for a major label, sure, but with the soulful depth of some of his earlier work for the indies! Sonny's on alto, flute, and soprano sax – and also plays a bit of percussion and some slight mini moog – not too much, as the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Charlie Haden

Closeness
Horizon/A&M, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
Charlie Haden has made many wonderful albums over the years, in many different formats, both large and small – but this set holds a really special place in our heart, as it's got this close-up and intimate approach that really shows the world what a special musician Haden can be! Each track ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wes Montgomery

Down Here On The Ground
CTI/A&M, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
Super-dope work from the great Wes Montgomery – set to excellent early CTI arrangements from Don Sebesky and Deodato! The groove is nice and airy – with Wes' guitar floating over the top, yet still present enough to ring out loud and clear on all the tightly plucked notes – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gato Barbieri

Caliente
A&M, 1976. Near Mint-
One of Gato Barbieri's later recordings – but don't hold that against it! The set's a smoother effort than most of Gato's earlier work, but it's also still pretty darn soulful – done in a way that allows plenty of space for his raspy reed work on tenor to flow over the top of larger ... LP, Vinyl record album

Neil Larsen

Jungle Fever
Horizon/A&M, 1978. Near Mint-
A standout set from keyboardist Neil Larsen – a record that crossed over big back in the 70s, and which still sounds pretty darn great in the 21st Century! Larsen's keys here are kind of a more mainstream take on territory Bob James was exploring a few years before – arguably hipper at ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1962/1978. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A pair of great unreleased Stanley Turrentine albums for Blue Note – issued here for the first time ever! First up is Comin Your Way – one of our favorite-ever albums from the great Stanley Turrentine – a really hard-burning session from his earliest days as a leader – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lennie Tristano

New Tristano
Atlantic, 1962. Near Mint-
An incredible record by Lennie Tristano – one that features him playing solo piano, but in a way that's so inventive, so creative, so pyrotechnic, that Atlantic Records had to include text on the back cover saying "No use is made of multi-tracking, over-dubbing, or tape-speeding" ...
