Look Of Love & The Sounds Of Laurindo Almeida

LP (Item 57447) Capitol, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good
A very groovy album by Laurindo Almeida – one of his best bossa cookers in a swinging 60s mode! The album features lots of great acoustic guitar from Laurindo, but spun over fuller arrangements by Lex De Azvedo, Clare Fischer, and Dick Grove – all of whom get that right sort of jaunty, breezy style to really showcase the evolution of the bossa on the west coast scene of the 60s! Production is great – handled by Lex – and really still lets the gentle acoustic guitar step out in front of the rest of the group – on groovy titles that include "The Look Of Love", "Windy", "I Love You", "When I Look In Your Eyes", "A Beautiful Friendship", and "Alfie".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Very moody work from British maestro Norrie Paramor! Mambo!
Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
Quite possibly our favorite album ever by the enigmatic Yma Sumac – thanks to some lively arrangements by Billy May, who gives the set a swinging jazzy groove! As you might guess from the cover, the style here is more in a Latin jazz mode than some of Yma's other more ethereal work – ... LP, Vinyl record album

18th Century Jazz
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good+
Goofy "18th Century" jazziness, played by a tight west coast studio sextet that features Shelly Mann, Milt Raskin, Harry Klee, and Jack Marshall on guitar. The tracks are jazz standards, but they're given a sort of plucked sound, and layed out with some sort of stepping classical grooves. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Insanely wonderful work by Bacharach – in a way that we can hardly begin to describe (but we'll certainly try!) A fairly sincere collection of instrumental versions of tracks from Sgt Pepper's, performed by the great Brit Easy bandleader Peter Knight, who worked with Scott Walker, Dusty Springfield, and Dee Dee Warwick.
