10th Anniversary Album

LP (Item 549829) Mercury, 1950s — Condition: Very Good+
(White label promo. Cover has a small split on the top seam, light wear, and a promo stamp.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, 1983. Near Mint-
One of the last great pop records from Donna Summer – thanks to super huge radio and video play for the title cut – and to a huge amount of tuneful tracks put together by producer/arranger Michael Omartin! By this point, Summer isn't trying to fool anyone that she's a deeper soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jerry Butler

Ice On Ice
Mercury, 1969. Very Good+
Killer stuff – as Jerry's getting the full early Philly treatment here, with arrangements by Thom Bell, Bobby Martin, and Roland Chambers, and production by a young Gamble and Huff! The sound isn't nearly as icy as the old Vee Jay days – but that's fine with us, as Jerry is nice and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jerry Butler

Ice Man Cometh
Mercury, 1968. Very Good
Amazing soul from one of the greats of the 60s! This album was one of the first that Jerry cut for Mercury – where he'd begun working with the young team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff to completely rework the earlier sound he'd forged at Vee Jay Records. The album's still got Jerry singing ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jerry Butler

Soul Goes On
Mercury, 1968. Very Good+
A great record, and one that's more of a deeper soul effort than some of his other Mercury sessions! Jerry's back recording in Chicago, and the album has arrangements by Arthur Wright, and production by Cal Carter for the Fountain Productions imprint that would grace Jerry and Billy Butler's ... Dee Dee Warwick

I Want To Be With You
Mercury, 1967. Very Good-
Wonderful work from Dionne Warwick's lesser-known sister – a hell of a great singer, and one who packs even more punch than her famous sibling! The gem of a set has all the poise and class of Dionne, but comes across with a lot more soul as well – a great mix that's very much in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Freedom Express

Easy Ridin
Mercury, 1970. Very Good
Pretty decent soul/rock material from the early 70s. The liner notes say that these guys started their career working with Buddy Miles, Electric Flag, and Sam & Dave – but the record's got a lot more of a soul vibe than you might expect, and it reminds us of some of the more rock-sounding ... Mercury, 1979. Near Mint-
A sweet groover from Esther Phillips – done in a style that's much more club-oriented than before, but which we find ourselves liking quite a lot! Given that Esther had explored other modes quite thoroughly on other 60s and 70s sessions, the change here is actually a nice one – and the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Avco, 1972. Very Good+
Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day! The album's got a subtle sort of power, though – one that lies not only in its ... LP, Vinyl record album
Avco, 1974. Very Good
Mid-period Stylistics, recorded after their association with Thom Bell and Linda Creed, and during the time that the group was handled by Hugo & Luigi. H&L do an ok job with them, and they've got Van McCoy handling arrangements to add a bit more soul to the mix – but the record is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roger (Roger Troutman)

Many Facets Of Roger
Warner, 1981. Near Mint-
There's many facets of Roger – and they're all pretty darn funky! From this vantage point, all we can think of is that Roger Troutman must have had some sort of crystal ball to see into the hip hop sampling future – either that, or he was busy cooking up west coast gangster funk drones ... A&M, 1977. Near Mint-
A great little groover from LTD – and a set that's got everything coming together perfectly in the mix!
