Voice Of The Xtabay

LP (Item 3932) Capitol, 1950 — Condition: Very Good
Capitol 12" LP that features work from 2 earlier Yma Sumac 10" LPs – Voice of The Xtabay and Inca Taqui. Voice Of The Xtabay is one of her earliest Capitol albums, with classic arrangements by Les Baxter, of material that was written by Yma's Partner Moises Vivanco. Titles include "Xtaby", "Wayra", "Taita Inty", "Monos", and "Tumpa". The other album has a sound that's a lot more primal – with orchestrations by Moises Vivanco, and tracks that include "Malaya", "Ripui", "Wak Ai", "Chumbe Maita", and "Karawi".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(70s yellow label pressing. Cover has light wear, small split on bottom seam.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fantastic! This is Yma Sumac's rock album from the early 70's – and it's got a wild sound that's totally different from any of her work at Capitol! A record that's definitely after our own heart – in case you couldn't tell from the title! The set has Jackie Gleason expanding his bag a bit for the late 60s – moving from the easy sound to the "Now Sound" – with the help of some cool electric sitar, pictured on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

An incredibly groovy album from Jackie Gleason from the mid 60 – with a sound that's a lot hipper than you'd expect from the "brass" in the title! Jackie's working here with an electric bass at the bottom of the band – providing a nice bouncing rhythm that makes the tunes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Guitar From Ipanema
Capitol, 1964. Very Good
Breezy bossa nova – Hollywood 60s style! Les Baxter

Sacred Idol
Capitol, 1960. Near Mint-
A real standout set from the end of Les Baxter's run at Capitol Records – originally scored for a film that was never released, but a great set of tracks that more than stands strongly on its own! The theme here is a Mexican/Latin American one – explored by Baxter with his trademark ... LP, Vinyl record album

A groovy Les Baxter album from the pre-exotica years – a set that showcases all the lively, jaunty styles that Les brought to his initial instrumental run on Capitol Records!
