More Music From Peter Gunn

LP (Item 9998) RCA, 1962 — Condition: Near Mint-
Henry Mancini's second album of stuff for the Peter Gunn TV show, and arguably better than the first one! The album's straight-ahead crime jazz – performed by a great set of players that includes Plas Johnson, Shelly Manne, Ted Nash, Paul Horn, and other west coasters. Tracks include "My Manne Shelly", "Timothy", "Goofin At The Coffee House", "Odd Ball", "Walkin' Bass", and "Spook!".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(German Living Stereo pressing in a flimsy cover, with ring impressions, bent corners, and purchase date written in pen in back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Peter Gunn
RCA, 1959. Near Mint-
A classic! This is the record that made Mancini's career, and forever transformed the face of crime and jazz. The record's a stunning batch of instrumentals, played by a crack group of west coast players who also performed regularly in the TV show. Titles include the classic "Peter ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great little album – filled with groovy numbers that recall all the charm of the Batman TV show! Nino Rota

Amarcord
RCA, 1974. Near Mint-
A gem of a record from the legendary Nino Rota – one of his best scores for director Federico Fellini – a bit later than some of their 60s classics, but equally great! Benjamin Frankel/Los Tres Guaramex

Night Of The Iguana
MGM, 1964. Sealed
Kind of a strange mix – half dramatic tracks with a very spare, and almost avant garde approach, by Benjamin Frankel; and half Mexican trio tracks, recorded by Los Tres Guaramex in earlier years, included here on the soundtrack. The result is a bizarre shifting between moody quiet tracks, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Manos Hadjidakis

Topkapi
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
A standout 60s soundtrack from the great Manos Hadjidakis – penned for a heist thriller from director Jules Dassin! Goldfinger
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
The soundtrack that put John Barry over the top – and to many, THE James Bond soundtrack! The album chills from the first notes of the haunting title theme – the majestic "Goldfinger", sung by Shirley Bassey with a tone that's as dangerous as a razor-sharp hat spinning ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lalo Schifrin

More Mission Impossible
Paramount, 1967. Very Good
A real stunner from Lalo – filled with tight jazzy soundtrack grooves, most of which sound even better than the work on the original Mission Impossible soundtrack! Mikis Theodorakis

Phaedra
United Artists, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
A really dark little soundtrack – penned by Mikis Theodorakis for Jules Dassin's remake of the Phaedra myth! Performance – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Warner, 1970. Sealed
The jury is sometimes out on the Mick Jagger on-screen performance in the Nicolas Roeg film Performance – but the soundtrack is something pretty separate entirely, and really says a lot more about the spirit of late 60s Warner Brothers Records in LA than it does the arthouse cinema scene in ...
