Classic Hoagy Carmichael (4LP Box Set)

LP (Item 967820) Smithsonian, 1930s/1940s — Condition: Sealed
4LP Box Set

(Includes the booklet. Box has some aging and light wear on the bottom edge.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bobby Darin

In A Broadway Bag
Atlantic, 1966. Very Good+
A mature side by Bobby Darin - featuring him taking on some of the biggest Broadway tunes of his generation – and doing a pretty darn good job as well! Arrangements are by Shorty Rogers and Perry Botkin, both of whom bring a hip flair to the proceedings – a sound that's usually a fair ... LP, Vinyl record album

Great Atlantic work from Mose – cut in the early years of his rediscovery by the hippie crowd, but with a tight small combo mode that recalls his classic 50s recordings for Prestige! The group on the set's a trio – with Mose on piano and vocals, Red Mitchell on bass, and Bill Goodwin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Hartman

I Love Everybody
ABC, Mid 60s. Very Good+
One of the coolest records ever by Johnny Hartman! Unlike his other mellow jazz vocal albums, this one's got a swinging batch of large group backings – handled by Oliver Nelson and Jack Pleis – and one in a way that really brings out a whole new side of Johnny, a very entertaining side ... Nancy Wilson

Nancy Wilson Show
Capitol, 1964. Near Mint- Gatefold
Early proof that Nancy Wilson was definitely on the right track with her career – a tremendous little live date recorded without any of the schmaltz or overdone showmanship of her contemporaries! Although the setting is the Cocoanut Grove, Nancy often makes us feel like she's putting over ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Very Good-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dennis Coffey

Goin' For Myself
Sussex, 1972. Very Good-
Classic funky groovers from Dennis Coffey – with his hard guitar sound gettin' all fuzzy over some loud drums and funky Sussex production!
