LP, Vinyl record album

The second album that guitarist Arthur Adams cut for Fantasy – and like the first, a tasty blend of smooth jazz funk that really fits Adams' New Orleans-styled guitar licks to a tee! Wayne Henderson produced, with a very similar feel to his other ubiquitous work from the time – and good cuts include "Shake a Loose" and "Love & Peace". (Cover has a promo stamp and a split spine.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fantasy, 1976. Very Good- Gatefold
Quite possibly the funkiest album ever from Pleasure – and that's saying a heck of a lot! The album grooves from the very first note – and moves through some of the group's tightest, most rock-solid numbers – all of which use their trademark blend of funky and soul, but which ... Fantasy, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
A funky jazz treasure – and the band's landmark first album! Sister Woman
Fantasy, 1972. Very Good
Very righteous work from Esther Marrow – a soul sister who sings with a hell of a lot of power! The set's an overlooked gem in the Fantasy catalog of the 70s, and it's one of only two secular soul albums cut by Marrow – and quite possibly the best of the bunch, too! Esther's got some ... Water & Power
Fantasy, 1975. Very Good
Obscure soul trio on Fantasy, with a smooth mellow modern soul sound, held together tightly by arrangements by Wade Marcus. Ear Wax/Wonderland, Late 70s. Sealed
An obscure little funky group from Detroit, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! ... Round 2
Avco, 1972. Very Good+
Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day! The album's got a subtle sort of power, though – one that lies not only in its ... LP, Vinyl record album
There's A Riot Goin' On
Epic, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness. Devil Made Me Do It
Gemigo, 1974. Good+
A fantastic second album from Rasputin Stash – a group who started out on Atlantic Records as a big ensemble with a pretty freaky, fuzzy sound – but one who emerge here with a sweet mix of funk and soul that's perfect for their placement on this mid-70s offshoot of Curtom Records! Tabu, 1978. Near Mint-

Philadelphia International, 1980. Very Good
One of the most compelling later albums on Philly International – a killer mix of jazzy numbers that have a very different style than most of the other Philly work at the time!
