This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Obscure recordings that Hawk did for the Jazztone label in the mid 50s – sides that were not well packaged at the time, and often get confused with other work recorded for different labels. The tracks capture Hawkins at a wonderful period in his career – almost lost between eras, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sweet little album from Johnny – quite different than most of his other sessions at the time, as this one features a big band – a "Big Soul Band", as the title says – filled with some strong Chicago and soul jazz players, and featuring killer arrangements by the great ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the rarest early albums by Johnny Lytle – and a very tasty set of tracks that has a slightly different kick than usual. Johnny's regular trio with Milt Harris on organ and Peppy Hinant on drums is joined by Steve Cooper on bass and Ray Barretto on congas – which gives the tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album
Easily one of the most modern recordings made by pianist Don Friedman in his early years – a set of forward-thinking numbers done with a quartet that includes guitar Atilla Zoller! As with Zoller's own work from the time, there's a freewheeling approach here that slides effortlessly between ... LP, Vinyl record album
An early full length album by Randy Weston – one that mostly features tunes by other composers, all given a slightly modern twist at the piano! The style here isn't as arch-modern or African-inspired as some of Weston's other 50s work – but it's still plenty darn great, and very much ... LP, Vinyl record album
"Dynamic" is right – as Rod's one of the hippest large group arrangers of his time! The album's a really wonderful record that features Rod leading an octet with a distinctly modern touch – almost building off the styles of Kenton groups of the 50s, but with more of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Notable sidemen include Philly Joe Jones & Max Roach on drums, Paul Chambers on bass, Wynton Kelly on piano, with Kenny Burrell & Wes Montgomery on guitar. LP, Vinyl record album
A surprisingly nice pairing – the vibes of Milt Jackson and some larger horn backings that fall heavy on the trumpet and trombone side of the spectrum! The sound's not nearly as heavy or hokey as you'd expect – thanks to arrangements by Melba Liston – and the horns do a nice job ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful session of straight jazz work by Michel Legrand – a larger group outing that's one of the few albums he ever cut in this style! The set has all the warmth and imagination of Legrand's best jazzy soundtrack work – strong themes, bold statements, and a sense of personal ... LP, Vinyl record album
A serious later session from Don Sebesky – one that shows that he's still capable of plenty of darkness in his music, even after scoring some smoother sets in the 70s! The album's definitely got something of a "jazz orchestra" feel – with a full orchestra that initiates the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Incredible stuff – and a rare meeting of two giant jazz talents you'd never thought would appear on the same stage! The album features a 1960 concert in Sweden – Miles and Sonny upfront, with backing by the trio of Wyton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. Tracks are long, fiery, ... LP, Vinyl record album
