BandBand (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab) ... CD
Capitol/Mobile Fidelity, 1969. Used Gatefold ... $24.99
Maybe not the first album from the legendary Band – but a record in which the group get everything completely right all the way through – and sparkle with that special sound that continues to influence generations of music makers, and music lovers! All the great elements the group were bringing to their work with Bob Dylan are in place here – but the focus is completely different, with this warm glow that really fits the vocals of Levon Helm, and a sense of unified vision that makes it really hard to even come up with a match for the energy of the group on this album. The great John Simon adds a few special touches to the overall sound – and titles include "Rockin Chair", "Across The Great Divide", "When You Awake", "Up On Cripple Creek", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Look Out Cleveland", and "King Harvest". CD

Bob DylanAnother Side of Bob Dylan (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Mobile Fidelity, 1964. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... $49.99
Bob's fourth record, and close runner up to Freewheelin' as the masterpiece of this early stage of his career. While the overly arch Times They Are A Changin' pretty much stood as the cornerstone of classifiable folk rock at the time, Another Side is just that. Dense, elliptical, and downright surreal at times, with some of the protesty stuff that made the media so happy & hungry, but much more layered and poetic. Another side is also much more reverent of and indebted to the Harry Smith field recordings that Bob studied so hard, the stuff that finally caught on with the general public in the early 90s. Titles include "Spanish Harlem Incident", "It Ain't Me Babe", "Ballad In Plain D", "Black Crow Blues", "I Don't Believe You", "Motorpsycho Nitemare", "To Ramona", "Chimes Of Freedom", "My Back Pages", and "I Shall Be Free No 10". LP, Vinyl record album
(Recent remaster from 2012, in the gold top cover, with marker through the barcode. Vinyl has some cosmetic plastic sleeve impressions.)

Bob DylanTimes They Are A-Changin' (original master recording SACD) ... CD
Columbia/Mobile Fidelity, 1964. Used Gatefold ... $18.99
Some of the darkest acoustic work that Bob Dylan ever recorded – a record of spare, stark beauty that really has the young singer knocking it out of the park! There's a brilliance to this record that makes it one of our key go-to Bob Dylan records over the years – mostly just the man and his guitar, but spinning out stories and messages with this understated genius – really setting himself apart from some of the overdone, over-hyped energy of the other rising folk singers of the time – and with politics that are still completely resonant after all of these years. The album's filled with beautiful songs – like "With God On Our Side", "North Country Blues", "Only A Pawn In Their Game", "The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll", "Boots Of Spanish Leather", and "The Times They Are A-Changin". CD

Coleman HawkinsHawk Flies High (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Riverside/Mobile Fidelity, 1957. Sealed ... $84.99
A key album in the reintroduction of Coleman Hawkins in the late 50s – recorded in a style that still bears a lot of traces of earlier years, but at a time when Hawk was being claimed as a key influence by a variety of younger modernists! The set's got a sense of freedom that's really surprising – especially on the longer numbers, which unfold with some playful instrumental twists that seem to come especially from trumpeter Idrees Sulieman and trombonist JJ Johnson – both of whom are great on the record. Other players include Hank Jones on piano, Barry Galbraith on guitar, and Oscar Pettiford on bass – and titles include "Juicy Fruit", "Think Deep", "Blue Lights", "Sanctity", and "Chant". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited numbered edition, still sealed.)

Albert KingBorn Under A Bad Sign (original master recording – gold CD pressing) ... CD
Rhino/Mobile Fidelity, 1967. Used ... $24.99
One of THE electric blues records of the 60s – a seminal set by Albert King that was probably blasted out of more college dorm rooms than southside juke joints, but which still more than deserves its due! The set was recorded by Stax with a nice raw sound – guitar very much upfront, but also set amidst arrangements that have a bit more soul than the average Chicago blues session from the same time. The set features a number of originals by Stax regulars like Booker T and David Porter – and titles include "The Hunter", "Born Under A Bad Sign", "Crosscut Saw", "Down Don't Bother Me", "Laundromat Blues", and "Personal Manager". CD
(Out of print, gold CD pressing from Mobile Fidelity. Tray card has some wear and is creased on both sides.)

Earl KlughFinger Paintings (original master recording) ... CD
Blue Note/Mobile Fidelity, 1977. Used ... $24.99
A real breakout album for Earl Klugh – the kind of record that got him on the a-list of fusion players for the rest of the 70s! The title here is especially well-chosen – as the tunes have a gently colorful feel that's never too slick, despite the tighter setting of the album – with light arrangements by Dave Grusin that still leave Earl plenty of space to work his subtle magic on the strings of the guitar. Titles include "Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow", "Summer Song", "Dance With Me", "Dr Macumba", "Long Ago & Far Away", and "Cabo Frio". CD

Lee RitenourCaptain Fingers (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Mobile Fidelity/Epic, 1977. Near Mint- ... $29.99
Smooth and funky fusion from Lee Ritenour – top-shelf all the way, and handled with a really soulful groove, thanks to production from the legendary Skip Drinkwater! Lee's all over the top of the guitar in true "Captain Fingers" style, and Skip makes sure he's got plenty going on underneath, too – with an all-star assemblage of players that includes Harvey Mason on drums, Patrice Rushen on keyboards, Dennis Budimir on guitar, Alphonso Johnson on bass, and Ernie Watts on saxes. The keyboards groove as nicely as the guitars (thanks Patrice!), and titles include "Margarita", "Fly By Night", "Dolphin Dreams", "Captain Fingers", and "Sun Song". LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol/Mobile Fidelity, Mid 50s. Used ... $24.99
A near-perfect session of 50s Sinatra – upbeat, lively, and with an undeniable punch that completely transforms every tune! The great Nelson Riddle is backing Frank up on the set – and the album's one of their liveliest from the time, filled with familiar tunes that Frank slips into like an old glove – then runs with as if they're his own! Titles include "It Happened In Monterey", "Love Is Here To Stay", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "You Make Me Feel So Young", "Old Devil Moon", and "How About You?". CD

Steely DanGaucho (original master recording) ... CD
MCA/Mobile Fidelity, 1980. Used ... $43.99
The last album in the classic run of Steely Dan – the final taste we'd have of the group until their surprising revival in the 90s! Gaucho picks up beautifully where Aja left off – warmly produced with a deep undercurrent of jazz, but perhaps a bit more down to earth feel at times too – not in the music, which is still up there in the heavens, but in some of the subject matter of the tunes, which almost takes us back to Royal Scam territory. Donald Fagan's vocals are wonderful throughout – a sound for which there's no referent or real description – and the balance in the instrumentation is near perfect on tunes that include "Babylon Sisters", "Hey Nineteen", "Time Out Of Mind", "My Rival", "Glamour Profession", and "Gaucho". ✨✧ Cannonball AdderleySomethin' Else (Gold CD with bonus track) ... CD
Blue Note/Mobile Fidelity, 1958. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A landmark album – even if it was the only session that Cannonball Adderley ever cut for Blue Note! The album was recorded at a time when Adderley was working with Miles Davis – and as such, the session features a group that includes Miles, blowing trumpet in a cool tone that's a perfect offset to Cannonball's more soulful style on alto sax – also different than the sound of his brother Nat, who was Adderley's more frequent partner on records. The rest of the group includes Hank Jones on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Art Blakey on drums – and like John Coltrane's Blue Train, the record's more of an "special session" than the usual Blue Note album, but the strength of the players make it one of the more memorable records of its day! Titles include "Somethin' Else", "One For Daddy-O", "Autumn Leaves", "Love For Sale", and a nice moody take on "Dancing In The Dark". CD

✨✧ BeatlesAbbey Road (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Mobile Fidelity/Capitol, 1969. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Pure brilliance from start to finish – especially the second side of the record, which has a continuous run of tunes that's very unique – and still completely sublime all these many years later! The album shows the fracturing ideas of the group, but crafted together with a unity you won't find on The White Album or Let It Be – still a way of making it all gel together beautifully, as the fab four stretch their wings to find new ways of being. Added instrumentation is used wonderfully – never overdone, but with orchestral passages that can really hammer home the best musical moments – and titles include "I Want You", "Because", "You Never Give Me Your Money", "Golden Slumbers", "The End", "Her Majesty", "Polythene Pam", and "Sun King". ✨✧ Steve CropperWith A Little Help From My Friends (Original Master Recording) ... CD
Volt/Mobile Fidelity, 1969. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An obscure bit of late 60s Stax! Steve Cropper's working away from the MG's here, in a mode that's slightly similar, but which has his guitar upfront in the mix on a batch of Memphis-style instrumentals – kind of his own take on the groove he was laying down with Booker T, but with a lot less organ in the mix! There's no mad funk on the album, but the whole thing's pretty darn nice – and is proof that Cropper was the key element in more than just a bit of the Stax sound at the time – a really strong artist who could more than stand on his own. Titles include "Crop Dustin", "Land Of 1000 Dances", "Rattlesnake", "Funky Broadway", and "Boogaloo Down Broadway". CD

Mobile Fidelity/Gryphon, 1979. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A serious later session from Don Sebesky – one that shows that he's still capable of plenty of darkness in his music, even after scoring some smoother sets in the 70s! The album's definitely got something of a "jazz orchestra" feel – with a full orchestra that initiates the proceedings, and sets the scene with a low-toned, rumbling sort of style – before the album then opens up into some much more jazz solo-based work that has a much more redemptive feel! Players include Alex Foster on tenor, Jon Faddis on trumpet, Gordon Beck on piano, Richard Davis on guitar, and Joe Beck on guitar – all of whom get some nice space to state their cases as the album rolls on – on three long tracks that include "Bird & Bela In B", "Rite Of Spring", and "Sebastian's Tune". ✨✧ Bernie KrauseCitadels Of Mystery (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Mobile Fidelity/Takoma, 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful little solo record from synthesizer legend Bernie Krause – best known as half of the legendary Beaver & Krause team, but stepping out here on his own after the untimely early death of Paul Beaver. The album was one that was initially conceived with Beaver, but recorded after his death – in a strange blend of synthesizer, keyboards, guitar, and lots of folk and world music influences. The musicians include a number of players who later went onto be instrumental stars of their own in the 80s – like Mark Isham and Andy Narrell – working here in an unusual setting that shows the richness of the Bay Area instrumental scene in the pre-New Age years. Titles include "Festival Of The Sun", "Flight To Urubamba", "Citadel Ay Bobo", "Heights Of Machu Picchu", and "Jambo Jambo". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ AmadanaPortable CD Player ... Turntable
Amadana (Japan), 2020. New Item ... Out Of Stock
A totally great little unit – and a great answer to the problem of the disappearing CD player! This tiny little CD player is easy to pack up and go – about the size of a stack of a few CDs, and equally light – with no internal battery unit or speakers – just a USB cord to provide power, and connection if needed – although the player also has bluetooth as well! This means that you can bring the player with you wherever you go, plug it into a car jack or conventional USB adaptor for a wall outlet – and either listen via headphones, or by streaming to a bluetooth speaker! The quality is great – and most immediately, the whole thing becomes a much-needed replacement for the automobile CD player, which is becoming a thing of the past. But it also allows you to take your CDs out on the back porch, stream through a blue tooth speaker, and enjoy a lot better fidelity than you'd get from your phone or MP3 player – plus a much bigger selection of music if you have a CD collection like us! The unit has a nice woodgrain finish, easy to handle controls, and a slim design that will make it easy to take anywhere – and the bluetooth connection means that you can play CDs in any car with a bluetooth feature! Comes with a USB power cord, and also features a headphone jack (also useful to connect to a speaker), and SPDIF connection, if you have that on your standard stereo. Turntable
