Man

LP (Item 69867) 20th Century, 1978 — Condition: Near Mint-
While not as huge a hit as some of his other 70s efforts, this is still a solid LP from White as the 70s were winding down. His signature sweeping soul style is fully in place, and the rich production complements the slower get-your-groove-on ballads nicely. Includes "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness", "September When I First Met You", "It's Only Love Doing Its Thing", "Sha La La Means I Love You" and 3 more.  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Barry White

Man Is Back!
A&M, 1989. Very Good+
The title's got it right – because the Man is definitely back, although in a completely different way than before! Barry White works here in a setting that's nice and lean – those soul changes that came about during them more electric 80s years, but also given that start-of-90s spin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Barry White

Change
Unlimited Gold, 1982. Near Mint-
It would be easy to write off some of Barry's later work, if only because his 70s output was so stellar – and ubiquitous. But this early 80s LP finds Barry trading in his patented rapping over sultry slow jams for crisp uptempo 80s groove numbers – but doesn't leave his or Gene Page's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Barry White

Let The Music Play
20th Century, 1976. Very Good
Barry White at the height of his powers – soaring out here with that amazing groove that never lets us down! The album's a mini-soul symphony throughout – tight beats, soaring strings, and that rock-solid Barry White vocal approach – that warm, fluid sound that's instantly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sheet Music
Unlimited Gold, 1980. Very Good+
Sheet music – as in the sheets of a bed, get it? Well, if you can't, the cover image has a picture of a bed with sheets that have musical notes on them, just so you get the hint. Despite that cheesy joke, though, the album's a great batch of tracks from Barry – who's grown nicely here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Barry White

Is This Whatcha Wont?
20th Century, 1976. Very Good+
Kind of a confrontational title, but still an excellent batch of grooves from The Maestro, with heavenly production, and lots of long drawn-out sexy grooves. Cuts include "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long", "I'm Qualified To Satisfy You", "Your Love – So Good I Can't Take ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1979. Near Mint-
One of the last truly great albums that Barry White ever cut – with his solid sexy soul sound firmly in place, and a solid groove running through most of the tracks on the album. Barry's voice is still in fantastic shape, too – and it's a real treat to hear him open up on some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1975. Near Mint-
A great mid period sleeper from Barry White – and an album that's not as hit-heavy as his other work from the time, but still equally nice! The album's got a mellower groove than some of Barry's albums of the time – a laidback approach that's going more for an overall sound, and which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Chandler

'80
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1980. Sealed
A nice record of modern soul that got a bit overlooked at the time because of the poor fate of the Chi-Sound label. The record's filled with Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it's a good updating of Gene's Chicago soul sound towards a style that's more modern ... Love Unlimited Orchestra

My Sweet Summer Suite
20th Century, 1976. Very Good+
A wonderful album by Barry White – a bit later than some of the early 70s hits, but one of his most satisfying records overall! The perpetual favorite on the album is the great groover "Strange Games & Things", a slow sly funky track that's been sampled often over the years, ... LP, Vinyl record album
20th Century, 1973. Very Good
Great stuff from the girls who first put Barry White on the map! The record is the group's second – and by this point, Barry had developed that tight snapping drum sound that made his orchestral albums work so well. You'll hear it to good effect on most songs on the LP, which have a great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Atlantic, 1976. Very Good-
A classic 70s soul soundtrack – and a dream of a combination! Curtis Mayfield wrote the soundtrack and produced the album – and the result is a killer batch of 70s soul tracks that matches Aretha's strong vocals with the hip Curtom sound of Chicago! Aretha was still doing pretty well ... LP, Vinyl record album
