Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Charlie Parker

Bird At St Nicks
Fantasy/OJC, 1950. Used
Posthumous issue of an early 50s live set by Charlier Parker – one of the many that were rushed to the public in the years after his early death. The set, like many of the other live ones from the time, isn't recorded that well – but the music is still pretty wonderful. There's a real ... CD

Walt Dickerson

Sense Of Direction
Prestige/OJC, 1961. Used
A fantastic bit of work by one of the most unique players in jazz! Dickerson's got an amazing tone on the vibes, and he's working here with pianist Austin Crowe, who creates beautiful spiralling piano lines that ring out in glorious tones next to Dickerson's darker metallic ones. The album's ... CD

Charlie Rouse

Takin Care Of Business
Jazzland/OJC, 1960. Used
A wonderful small group session from tenor genius Charlie Rouse – done at the time when he was first taking off with Thelonious Monk, but in a great style that's all his own! The group features Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Walter Bishop on piano, Earl May on bass, and Art Taylor on drums – ... CD

McCoy Tyner

Sama Layuca
Milestone/OJC, 1974. Used
Quite hip stuff from McTyner – really righteous sounds from his 70s run for Milestone Records, recorded with a great lineup that includes Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Gary Bartz on alto, Azar Lawrence on soprano and tenor sax, Bulster Williams on bass, Billy Hart on drums, and Mtume on ... CD

Miles Davis

Jazz Showcase
Prestige/OJC, Early/Mid 1950s. Used
Titles include "Blue Haze", "Round Midnight", "My Old Flame", "Will You Still Be Mine", and "Solar" – 11 tracks total. CD

Joe Gordon

Lookin' Good!
Contemporary/OJC, 1961. Used
An incredible session of hardbop from early 60s LA – easily one of the hippest and hardest-hitting albums ever recorded for Contemporary Records! Joe Gordon passed away early in 1963, and this album's one of a rare few he made as a leader – but even if it was the only one, it might ... CD

Barney Kessel/Shelly Manne/Ray Brown

Straight Ahead
Contemporary/OJC, 1975. Used
A rare 70s reunion for the Poll Winners trio of Barney Kessel, Ray Brown, and Shelly Manne – one that has them all looking a bit shaggy on the cover, but still plenty darn tight in the grooves of the record! There's a really nice change here from the earlier sound of the group – longer ... CD

Kenny Burrell

All Day Long
Prestige/OJC, 1957. Used
One of the best blowing sessions on Prestige – and proof that Kenny Burrell could hit a nice groove when he wanted to! The record is a very open-ended set, and players include Burrell, Donald Byrd, Frank Foster, Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins, and Art Taylor. Side one features a great long ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
Ahhhh . . . The Jam Session years of Gene Ammons! This album was one of a number that Jug cut for Prestige during the mid 50s, all excellent examples of how perfectly the label's "blowing session" style could work when it wanted to. The set takes Ammons' tenor, and groups it with an ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1960. Used
Artistry is a word that's not used lightly here – as the album gives Charlie Byrd plenty of space to show off his deepest talents on the acoustic guitar – in a spare trio setting with Keter Betts on bass and the lesser-known Buddy Deppenschmidt on drums! The format is one that was rare ... CD

Simon Willson

Good Company
Fresh Sound New Talent (Spain), 2023. Used
Simon Willson on bass, Isaac Wilson on piano, Jonas Esser on drums, and Jacob Shulman on tenor sax. CD

Sun Ra

Nothing Is
ESP/Calibre (Italy), 1966. Used
One of the best non-Saturn Sun Ra albums of the 60s – material recorded live on a tour of New York colleges in 1966, and very much in a spirit that captures the Arkestra at their best! Longer tracks are juxtaposed nicely with shorter ones – in a way that has the group running very ... CD
