LP (Item 64578) Columbia, 2001 — Condition: Near Mint-
Also available
Maxwell — Now ... CD 0.99

Maxwell's third LP, and he just keeps getting better. His songwriting skills have become more finely honed, and the arrangements and general feel still maintain his warm, retro modern vibe. We never tire of his soulful vocals, and music that references classics like the Isleys, Marvin Gaye, Leon Ware or Leroy Hutson without ever having to resort to aping them or sampling their hooks. 12 tracks, including "Getting To Know Ya", "Lifetime", "Changed", "For Lovers Only", "Temporary Nite", "Silently", "Symptom Unkown" and "Now/At The Party".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Columbia, 1996. Very Good 2LP
An excellent bit of modern soul – a smooth seductive album that fits perfectly with an older mellow groove, but which also sparkles with the best recent efforts of the past decade. Stones Throw, 2018. Very Good+
The hype sticker on this one might say it all – "First album in 34 years, still sounds like '84" – and that's definitely the spirit here, as overlooked soul artist Prophet serves up a host of sweet 80s keyboards and grooves! He's not alone, though – as Mndsgn is on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stones Throw, 2018. Near Mint-
Bass-heavy funk with a definite 80s influence – but served up here with a contemporary crispness that's the best calling card of Stimulator Jones! Truth & Soul, 2013. Sealed
Sweet instrumentals pulled from the excellent Lady vocal debut – a set that doesn't feature the female singers at all, and instead just has this great El Michels kind of groove! The sound is no surprise, given that Leon Michels produced and also plays heavily on the record – with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Brown

Bodyheat
Polydor, 1976. Very Good
An enduring classic from James Brown – quite possibly the strongest of his late 70s albums, and a record that nicely balances the harder funk of the early part of the decade with a more sophisticated style that almost gets slightly jazzy at times! The vocals are planted strongly at the top ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rodney Franklin

You'll Never Know
Columbia, 1980. Very Good+
Fully-formed genius from the amazing Rodney Franklin – one of the best keyboard stars to emerge from the late 70s scene! Tell Me The Truth
Arista, 1975. Very Good+
One of the greatest records ever by Jon Hendricks – one of our favorite male jazz singers of all time!
