If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Used CD Grade
We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD".
This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer
Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play
without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove,
you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not,
then you may return it for a full refund.
With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of
surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be
clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we
handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted
otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so
look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.
A mixture of fusion and soul – with some hard-jamming tracks that sometimes brings more of a focus on the groove than on the vocals – and other cuts that steer it into a solid pop soul approach! There's a warmth and depth to the production and the songwriting that's a pretty big step ... CD
An excellent 80s set from one of the greatest voices in 70s soul – the sublime Billy Paul, sounding great here with a bit of electro groove in the rhythms! The album's approach is a bit different than Billy on Philly International – but the strength of Paul's presence is still very ... CD
Great early work from Billy Ocean – a smooth album of understated groovers, all done in a style that's nicely retrained, and which places a good focus on Billy's great vocals! Most of the record skips along in a warm mellow groove – never too over the top, and in a way that makes us ... CD
The first album from Thelma Jones – and a real standout set from mid 70s Columbia! The record is a sweet blend of southern and modern soul, with some fantastic arrangements by Bert DeCoteaux, who also produced the set in a wonderful way that lets Jones retain the deeper qualities of her ... CD
A standout classic from Platypus – one of the tightest funk acts to work for Casablanca Records in the 70s! The quintet have a razor-sharp sound right from the start – leaner than some of the bigger funk ensembles of the time, but equally powerful in the end – thanks to a great ... CD
A lost album from Alzo – best known as one half of the Latin/folk/free soul duet Alzo & Udine – but sounding equally great on his own! The tracks are from sessions that Alzo recorded with arranger/producer Bob Dorough (who cut some of his own great work at the time) – and ... CD
Aretha Franklin at the end of the 80s – capping off a big run of records for Arista with another successful collaboration with Narada Michael Walden! There's a bit more of a groove here than before – a nice bounce on many cuts that almost brings in a slight new jack flavor – but ... CD
