Well-Tempered Synthesizer

LP (Item 60081) Columbia, Early 70s — Condition: Used

LP

Walter Carlos (now Wendy) performs electronic versions of many classics on the Moog. If nothing else, this is an interesting period piece, though on a certain level we're quite fond of it, oth in it's performance and it's motivation. Moogy takes of Monteverdi's "Orfeo" suite, several Scarlatti sonatas, Handel's "Water Music", Brandenberg's "Concerto no 4 in G Major" and Monteverdi's "Domine Ad Adjuvandum".  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Clockwork Orange
Columbia, 1972. Very Good-
This isn't the official soundtrack for the film, but a separate recording of Walter Carlos' score that was released apart from the original soundtrack album. A beautiful testament to the glory of New York in the postwar years – a concept album penned and conducted by Gordon Jenkins, as kind of a musical tribute to the city and its apartment culture! Brass And Bamboo
Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the best albums by Tak Shindo – a west coast Japanese composer/arranger who was one of the few exotica artists to actually have the cultural cred to the sound! Caribbean Moonlight
Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
Not as all-out exotic as some of Les' earlier Capitol albums, but still pretty darn great! The theme here is Carribean exotic, and the rhythms have a little bit more of Cuba and Haiti than they do of primitive Borneo. Les handles them nicely, as always, and contributes some wonderful arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album

Evolution, Late 60s. Very Good Gatefold
Slinky strings with a nice moody feel – recorded in a style that's like the best pre-funk work by the Mystic Moods, with a similar sort of ambitious and sensual quality! A strange 60s chapter in the career of trumpeter Chet Baker – but one that we sure like a heck of a lot!
