Now Is The Time

LP (Item 531183) ABC, 1977 — Condition: Very Good+
(Cover has light wear and some yellowing from age.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ray Charles

Crying Time
ABC, 1966. Near Mint-
Ray Charles at the height of his 60s powers – maybe not his first album of country-tinged material, but a set that has Ray drawing on all the strengths of previous sessions for Tangerine, then really sending the whole thing over the top! The arrangements are superb – handled by Onzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1964. Very Good+
A compilation of soul and rock stormers, put together loosely around the ABC music show Shindig. There is some nice stuff by The Tams ("The Hurtin Kind"), The Impressions ("Love Is A Mystery"), The Sapphires ("Why Don't You Let Yourself Go"), and Fats Domino. The ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold
An obscure funky rockin' bluesy combo, with an integrated lineup, and instrumentation that includes organ, guitar, bass, and drums. The tracks are all originals, with a funky feel to them, and some good grooves on the best tracks. The lead singer's in kind of an Eric Burdon mode – but on the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tangerine/ABC, 1972. Very Good
A righteous early 70s set from Ray Charles – and a record with a much deeper vibe than you might guess from the image of Ray and some kids on the cover! Arrangements were handled by Quincy Jones, Sid Feller, and Mike Post – and the record is kind of a 70s take on the fuller modes that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

Rags To Rufus
ABC, 1974. Very Good+
One of those records that everyone seemed to own, back in the day – and for good reason, too – as Rufus and Chaka have a way of opening ears of folks who dig so many different styles – from soul to rock to funk and jazz – but all with a groove that's totally their own! The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rufus & Chaka Khan

Street Player
ABC, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold
Stunning work from Rufus & Chaka Khan – still very much at the height of their powers on this late 70s release – and still doing things at a level that nobody else can touch! The blend of jazz and soul is completely sublime – given a bit of extra help on arrangements by Clare ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1978. Very Good+
Although not as instantly captivating as their work for Stax, this set for ABC is still a pretty darn great group soul album! The group haven't lost their touch vocally – and Ron Banks and LJ Reynolds are still incredible singers that push smooth soul to a whole new level. The album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Charles

Live In Concert
ABC, 1964. Near Mint-
A classic live set from Ray Charles – one that equally showcases all the best sides of his sound in the mid 60s! The group's got a nice dose of jazz – which it shows right at the start – almost a mix of Basie swing and R&B, of the sort that Ray was sporting heavily in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Have A Smile With Me
ABC/Paramount, 1964. Near Mint-
(Mono pressing. Cover has minimal wear.) LP, Vinyl record album
Ear Wax/Wonderland, 1978. Sealed
An obscure little funky group from Flint, Michigan, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the ... Jimmy Castor Bunch

It's Just Begun
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
Wickedly fuzzy funk! Jimmy Castor recorded in a lot of different styles during the 70s – but the one he used on this album is still his best – and the album may well be his lasting testament of funky genius! The record's a non-stop guitar-heavy batch of classic funk tracks – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hot Wax, Early 70s. Very Good-
An excellent batch of hard soul grooves from the great Laura Lee! This one was her first for the Hot Wax label – and it's got the raw quality of her earlier singles for labels like Chess, with a hard vocal style that's very much in the Aretha Franklin/Fontella Bass camp – plus some ...
