✈
One of the most exciting records we've heard from either player in years – a really magic session that captures all the raw energy of their best recordings of the 50s! Roach is a real demon on the drums – both tightly swinging, but also showing aspects of his years in the left end of the jazz spectrum – and Terry response accordingly, by blowing those raw, unfettered, almost earthy notes that we first came to love on his early albums for Emarcy and Argo. The rest of the group is comprised of Don Friedman on piano and Marcus McLaurine on bass – but it's really just Terry and Roach jamming together on most of the set – poised somewhere between the history and future of jazz! Titles include "The Profit", "Let's Cool One", "Statements", "Lil Max", "I Remember Clifford", and "Brushes & Brass".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

A wonderful return to form for the Great Jazz Trio of Hank Jones, Richard Davis, and Elvin Jones – a recent session, but one recorded with the warmth and imagination of their best 70s Japanese sets! The album's done in the ultra-high fidelity style of the 88's label – and features the ... CD

JJ Johnson Quintet

Dial J J 5
Columbia (Japan), Early 60s. Used
One of JJ's best from the late 50s – a tightly crackling hardbop set, recorded very much in the manner of his classic JJ Inc album! The sound here is a bit more compact overall – with some shorter tracks that really allow Johnson to display his keen sense of economy on his horn, while ... CD

A classic! This is one of the rarest of the rare of all Blue Note albums – and it's the only-ever session cut as a leader by the great tenor player Fred Jackson! The album's a really heavy burner – an all-out organ/tenor assault with the kind of gutbuckety soul groove that only peaked ... CD
