Reflections

LP (Item 471054) Motown, 1968 — Condition: Very Good+
A tremendous late 60s album from The Supremes – one that still has the Holland-Dozier-Holland team helming the set on production – and really soaring to the skies with this newfound sense of pride and power! The combination of the group's vocals and the Motown machine can't be beat – and although the album's not overtly political, it does stand forth with this righteous sort of quality that really shows how the whole enterprise was elevating soulful expression to new heights with a record like this! The studio work is sublime – perfect for setting up the tunes and letting the trio send them on home – on titles that include the stunning "Reflections", plus "Forever Came Today", "I Can't Make It Alone", "In & Out Of Love", "Bah-Bah-Bah", "What The World Need Now Is Love", "Up Up & Away", "Then", "Misery Makes It's Home In My Heart", and "Ode To Billy Joe".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sublime early material from The Supremes – the group's first album for Motown, but one that already shows them standing out strongly from other girl soul acts of the time! The title's an apt one – as the girls are working without Diana Ross here, finding "new ways" to keep on grooving in a Motown vein! Classier than usual for the girls – as they move over to Broadway for a set of tracks penned by the Rodgers & Hart team, done up in a smooth Motown style that was probably designed to crossover, but which did so less than some of their straighter soul work. SOUL/Motown, 1969. Very Good+
A classic set by The Originals – one of Motown's best second-generation soul groups, with a sound that rivaled the best of the indie sweet soul groups of the late 60s and early 70s – those fragile harmonies and personal qualities, yet presented here with the sharper finish you'd expect ...
