Childhood Is Forever

LP (Item 46264) BYG (France), 1969 — Condition: Near Mint-
An unusual early session from the great pianist Steve Kuhn – recorded in Paris in 1969, but with a much more structured vibe than some of the Actuel sessions at the time! Steve's definitely got an edge, though – as do group members Steve Swallow on bass and Alto Romano on drums – and titles include "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes", "Spring Can Really Hang You The Most", "Baubles, Bangles & Beads", "The Meaning Of The Blues", "All That's Left", "I Waited For You", and "Eiderdown".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a few very light bends on the edges, but looks great overall.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sonny Sharrock

Monkey-Pockie-Boo
BYG/Actuel (France), 1969. Sealed Gatefold
Wow! This is one of Sonny Sharrock's rare early recordings, recorded in France shortly after he had been playing with Herbie Mann. The groove's kind of crazy, and it's amazing that Sonny jumped out so soon after leaving the sort of pop-jazz environs he was in with Herbie – but hey, lots of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dizzy Gillespie

Dizzy In Greece
Verve, 1956. Very Good+
Dizzy's in Greece, looking very cool in a fez on the cover – and really wailing hard with a larger group that includes Billy Mitchell, Charlie Persip, Lee Morgan, Wynton Kelly, and Phil Woods! The mode here is still quite boppish, despite the larger size of the ensemble – but Dizzy ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Coltrane

Ballads
Impulse, 1962. Near Mint- Gatefold
A perennial favorite in the John Coltrane catalog – a beautiful set of standards, handled in a warm laidback style – but which still has some of the depth of soul that John Coltrane brought to his more experimental work on Impulse Records! The album's a classic introduction to the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wayne Shorter

All Seeing Eye
Blue Note, 1965. Very Good
One of the more avant-oriented 60s sessions cut by Wayne Shorter for Blue Note – a record that's not entirely part of the "new thing" generation, but which definitely has Shorter pushing the boundaries from his previous records for the label! The lineup here is a key batch of ... LP, Vinyl record album
