I Love Music

LP (Item 38103) Atlantic, 1978 — Condition: Very Good
The great Vince Montana was one of the strongest forces in the Philly soul scene of the 70s – and he was not only an excellent vibist whose instrumentation can be heard on countless soul sessions, but also one heck of an arranger, with a real talent for a soulful groove – as you'll hear in this classic solo set! Montana's work is head and shoulders above most disco of the time – and includes strong elements of funk, and a real concern for jazzy phrasing that kept things real – all of which makes for a sophisticated blend that really sets this one apart from the pack – and has made the set a real Dusty Groove favorite over the years. Montana's genius can be heard clearly on many cuts on the record – from the sweet funk of "Samba De Montana", to the complicated conga and jazzy breakdown disco of "You Know How Good It Is", to the straight soulful disco of the title cut, "I Hear Music", which is a great little cover of the Gamble & Huff track!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atlantic, 1978. Very Good
Excellent work from this one-off group arranged and produced by Vince Montana! Aretha Franklin

Aretha's Gold
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good

Margie Joseph

Sweet Surrender
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good+
Margie Joseph gets a hipper treatment than on earlier records – a mix of east coast styles that adds in some Philly and early modern mellow arrangements, both of which provide a great contrast to Margie's southern-tinged vocals!
