Noise Of Trouble – Live In Tokyo

LP (Item 32806) Enemy, 1986 — Condition: Sealed

Why was it that the left end of jazz in the 80s often produced some of the most unexpected alliances? Perhaps it was because it was so tough to gig and earn on one own's creative vision that it made more sense to play together with other leaders. Or perhaps the dearth of really creative music in the mainstream made more avant players try to fill the void. Whatever the case, this album's a very typical batch of 80s avant – featuring the unlikely alliance of Peter Brotzmann, Bill Laswell, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Sonny Sharrock, all playing with noisy whimsy on tracks like "Panzer Be Bop", "Blind Willie", "Straw Dog", and "Pig Cheese".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(US pressing. Cover has a small cutout hole.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Linc Chamberland

A Place Within
Muse, 1977. Near Mint-
Free flowing jazz guitar by this overlooked player, with a group that includes Dave Liebman on tenor and soprano, Lyn Christie on bass, and Bob Leonard on drums. Cuts include "Indeed", "Mahjong", "Place Within", and "Three Thing". LP, Vinyl record album

Gary Chandler

Outlook
Eastbound, 1972. Near Mint-
Maybe the only album ever issued under the name of trumpeter Gary Chandler – but a smoking little set that rivals some of the best jazz funk records at the start of the 70s – including heavyweight classics on Prestige by Melvin Sparks, Leon Spencer, and Boogaloo Joe Jones! The feel ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gunter Hampel

Dances – Paris 1969
Birth, 1969. Very Good+
One of Gunter Hampel's better records, and one that features him playing solo on vibes, flute, piano, and bass clarinet. The bass clarinet stuff is especially good, and gets very noisy at times, with lots of repeated phrasing. The LP's broken up into "dances" for the different ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Stitt

Now!
Impulse, 1963. Very Good+ Gatefold
A tight swinger from Sonny Stitt – one of the standout 60s dates he recorded for the Impulse label, a place where he seemed to get even more care and focus in the studio! The record's got all the soulful swing of Stitt's classics for Roost, but also hits a slightly more lyrical groove at ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
This session shouldn't work, but it does – and beautifully! By all means, an album that includes Diz, Art Blakey, Monk, and Sonny Stitt playing together should be a first-rate snoozer, with hackneyed performances of common-denominator material that they can all get their hooks around – ... Ellen McIlwaine

We the People
Polydor, 1973. Very Good+
Wonderful work from the great Ellen McIllwaine! Ellen's certainly not a soul artist – but she's got a particularly soulful approach to folk rock – one that's made her a favorite of groovers worldwide in the past few decades, thanks to a big push from Gilles Peterson, and the club scene ... Decal (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Sealed 2LP
Hmm . . . We're not sure that Pete Brown ever got much in the way of singing lessons – but it was always that unique voice that made him such a standout in the British scene of the early 70s! This 2LP set brings together rare material – with Battered Ornaments and Piblokto, and other ... LP, Vinyl record album
