Midnight Love

LP (Item 23021) Columbia, 1982 — Condition: Very Good
$9.99 ...

LP

(€8.84 || £7.63 || ¥1009) (approx.)

Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! The style here is a bit more modern, but the sound is still great – a smoother approach to soul than most of Gaye's contemporaries at the time, recorded in a way that has the vocals soaring majestically over the top of the backings! Slight undercurrents of funk spice things up somewhat, but still avoid any mainstream 80s groove cliches – and Marvin wrote, arranged, and produced the album himself (although with a bit of help from Chicago organist Odell Brown on the hit "Sexual Healing"!) Titles include "Sexual Healing", "My Love Is Waiting", "Third World Girl", "Turn On Some Music", "Joy", and "Midnight Lady". (Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover is still in the shrinkwrap with a hype sticker.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tamla, 1965. Very Good
Marvin Gaye shows another wonderful side of his talents in the early Motown years – a classy, crooing approach that was perfect for this tribute to Nat King Cole! Motown, 1969. Very Good+
Great late 60s work from Marvin Gaye – a pre-What's Going On set that still shows him picking up some of the hipper, deeper themes bubbling under at Motown – a bit of the heavier bass and politics of Norman Whitfield camp, touched with some of the sweeter soul from earlier years! Tamla, 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
A wonderful 70s live album from Marvin Gaye – a set that was as expansive, ambitious, and sophisticated as his studio work from the time! Wonderful stuff – and one of our favorite-ever Marvin Gaye albums! One of the greatest albums ever from BT Express – tighter, smoother, and classier than the group's early funky disco sessions – and with a cosmic sound that shows them really growing at the time! Smooth modern soul from Kokomo – slicker than the group's first self-titled album for Columbia, from the mid 70s, but almost better, thanks to some great songwriting and production.
