Climax

LP (Item 2248) Westbound, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
Funky madness from the early version of the Ohio Players! The album features work by the group that was most likely recorded before their move to Mercury, collected here in an album that's right up there with their trippiest work for Westbound. Highlights include the heavy groovers "Food Stamps Y'all", "Pack It Up", and "Players Ballin'" – and the album features the traditional gatefold cover of that freaky nude woman!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ohio Players

Contradiction
Mercury, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
An overlooked bit of mid 70s funk from the Ohio Players – cut right at the height of their brilliant Mercury years! The album's got a smooth and slinky finish that has the band tightening up a lot from their Westbound years – going for a compressed spacey soul sound on some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ohio Players

Angel
Mercury, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
Maybe the last great album in the Ohio Players run for Mercury in the mid 70s – a set that's every bit as smooth, sexy, and funky as their other major label efforts from the time – and one that continued to refine the grittier funk of their roots! While the Players might be remembered ... LP, Vinyl record album
Westbound (UK), Early 70s/2017. Near Mint- 3LP Gatefold
The classic sound of Funkadelic, reworked by a key selection of contemporary talents from the Detroit scene – but never in a way that wrecks the originals at all! Westbound, 1975. Near Mint-
A killer compilation – one that's every bit as wild and wooly as the famous image on the cover! The set came out in the mid 70s, and it's a perfect summation of all the greatness that Funkadelic had given the group in just a few short years – their brilliant way of blending together ... James & Bobby Purify

Pure Sound Of The Purifys
Bell, Late 60s. Very Good+
James & Bobby were one of the classic male soul duos of the 60s – and this album of tight tracks is right up there with similar work by Sam & Dave, Bob & Earl, and Mel & Tim. The album doesn't include their big hit "I'm Your Puppet", but it does have a lot of other ... LP, Vinyl record album

William Bell

Phases Of Reality
Stax, 1972. Very Good+
A full, rich set from William Bell – one that's got a headier 70s approach than some of his earlier work for Stax – with a set of themes that clearly pick up on the socially conscious vibe of the time, set to arrangements that include a bit more keyboards and funky guitar than usual! ... Epic, 1976. Very Good+
A killer album of crossover soul from the mid 70s – one that dropped like a bomb when it hit, and gave this UK group a number of big hits in America! Keyboardist Rod Temperton wrote all the tracks on the album – and he's got keen talent for both funky numbers and ballads. If soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

A mega-hit for Stevie Wonder – an album that features a killer title cut, plus lots of other wonderful tunes that show the world that a full-formed adult soul star had arrived on the market! Isley Brothers

Harvest For The World
T Neck, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
Fantastic Isleys from the mid-70s! The record has the group dropping their heavy funk style (which was sounding a bit tired by this point), and picking up a strident soul groove that buoyed their tracks with a spiritual sound that reminds us of some of the best moments from the Brother Brother ... End Of A Rainbow
