LP (Item 1277) Fantasy, 1974 — Condition: Very Good
(€10.16 || £8.95 || ¥1340) (approx.)

One of Cannonball Adderley's excellent moody electric albums from the early 70s – with a stripped down vibe that's really nice, made even better by sweeeet production by David Axelrod! The set's got great keyboard work by George Duke and Hal Galper – both working in a spare, subtle funk mode that's a perfect fit for Axelrod's production style and Cannon's soulful soloing. Tracks include David Axelrod's "Book-Ends", plus 2 Hal Galper tunes, "Phases" and "My Lady Blue", and Cannonball's "Suite Cannon". (Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great session from 1959 – one that features John Coltrane playing with the Adderley group, recorded in Chicago when they were stopping through the city with Miles Davis' combo at the time! Cannonball Adderley Volume 1
Dobre, Early 70s. Sealed
An undated Cannonball Adderley live set – but most likely from the early 70s, given that the group features electric keyboards by Mike Wolf, bass by Walter Booker, and drums by Roy McCurdy. Once again, Cannon proves that it's not the song, it's the singer! This set of tunes from the hit musical Fiddler On The Roof should be schmaltzy – but thanks to the quality of the group (a great sextet with Nat Adderley, Charles Lloyd, Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes), and thanks to ... If the 60's ever had a "hit" jazz record, it was probably this one! An album that definitely lives up to its title – given the great change and evolution in the style of Cannonball Adderley's music – definitely pointed towards the soul jazz fame to come in the 60s!
