Shinobukawa – Long Darkness

LP (Item 957332) RCA (Japan), 1972 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

Dialogue from the film adaptation of the novel by Tetsuo Miura, with incidental music included as well.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes a photo booklet with script.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

George Duning

World Of Suzie Wong
RCA, 1960. Very Good+
A strange film, but a great soundtrack! George Duning came up with an excellent batch of jazzy tracks for the film – and most of them swing hard and tightly, with strong jazzy solos, in a manner that's similar to some of Mancini's best scores of the late 50s. A number of tracks have odd ... LP, Vinyl record album

A lost Lief Garrett film! Also features songs by Dr John, Jefferson Starship, and Mickey Thomas. LP, Vinyl record album

Ennio Morricone

Fistful Of Dollars
RCA, 1967. Very Good
A landmark record – not only in the history of the western, but in that of Ennio Morricone! The soundtrack, written for this hit Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, is everything you'd want in a 60s western – driving orchestral passages, twanging guitar parts, and spooky little bits that ... Armando Trovajoli

Dramma Della Gelosia
RCA (Italy), 1970. Very Good+
A beautiful score to this lesser-known Marcello Mastroianni film from 1970 – sublime sounds from the great Armando Trovajoli – done in a beautiful mix of electric keyboards, wordless vocals, and dreamy orchestrations! The set's got this warmly stepping groove that's really tremendous ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1961. Very Good+
A wonderful Nino Rota score – perhaps not as well known as some of his work for Fellini, but every bit as great, if not better! The themes are light and tight – with that jaunty Rota approach to scoring that stays with you for days after you leave the theatre. Instrumentation includes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Georges Auric

Bonjour Tristesse
RCA, 1958. Very Good+
The great, bracing score to the fantastic Otto Preminger film, with music by Georges Auric, and nice dramatic saxophone passages. Juliette Greco sings the title song in a nice dramatic Frenchy fashion, and the whole thing does great justice to the steamy book by Francoise Sagan. LP, Vinyl record album

Sharky's Machine
Warner, 1981. Sealed Gatefold
One of the coolest soundtracks ever for a Burt Reynolds film – an a hip mix of soul and jazz tracks that's gone onto become a classic over the years! Gato Barbieri

Last Tango In Paris
United Artists, 1972. Sealed
One of the greatest moments ever from saxophonist Gato Barbieri – and that's saying a lot, given that by the time of this recording, he'd already had a great 60s run as an avant jazz musician, and started the 70s with a string of albums that criss-crossed jazz and South American musical ...
