A fantastic live set from Vanessa Da Mata – one that has her commanding the crowd with the sort of majesty that usually is just reserved for MPB artists of the golden age – at once intimately personal, but also able to project her depth to a large audience with effortless ease! Music is a mix of samba-styled tracks and more contemporary numbers – with a few moments that have maybe even a bit more rock instrumentation than you might expect – yet always, as with Vanessa, the style is less important than the lady herself – who shines brilliantly throughout! Titles include "Gente Feliz", "Va Pro Inferno Com Seu Amor", "Nao Me Diexe So", "Segue O Som", "Te Amo", "Bau", "Amado", "Impossivel Acreditar Que Perdi Voce", and "Bolsa De Grife" – plus a surprising take on "Love Will Tear Us Apart".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

A great set that features mostly material from Jorge's classic early years at Philips – plus a few more titles of recent vintage! The early stuff's the best, though – and it ranges from driving soulful bossa, to some of the experimental funky styles that Joao used during the early 70s. ... CD

Seu Jorge & Almaz
Now Again, 2010. Used
Incredible music from Seu Jorge – and that's saying a lot, given how much we've loved all of his previous records! This time around, Jorge really knocks it out of the park – by stepping away from some of his tighter styles, and going for a looser, more organic approach that's totally ... CD

An incredible later meeting by two of the most sophisticated musical talents of the bossa generation – and a record that's done in the same intimate, spare setting as Jobim's meeting with Elis Regina a few years before! Production is by bossa legend Aloysio De Oliveira – and the sound ... CD

Live In Montreux
Elektra, 1987. Used
A later album by Joao – but a really lovely live performance that sparkles with the warmth and intimacy of his earlier studio albums! The album's got a total of 13 tracks, all recorded at the Montreux jazz festival in 1985 – with no backing for Joao's voice other than his light lively ... CD

Nice overstuffed "best of" compilation that features work by Veloso that spans from his early Tropicalia years to the stuff he did as a pseudo-new wave artist in the early 80s. 7 cuts alone are from the pivotal year of 1968 – including "Shy Moon", "Lua De Sao ... CD

A nice 14 track sampler of the best work by Brazilian soul singer Tim Maia from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. Unlike many other Brazilian singers Maia's style has a lot of US soul influences in it, especially as he moves more into his modern soul work of the early 80s. The sound is ... CD

Pieta
Savoy, 2002. Used
Warmer and richer than some of Nascimento's other recent albums – and a compelling batch of tunes that shows he's as strong as ever! The album's awash in a soaring, almost spiritual sound – as befits the title – but it's also got some interesting jazzy moments, and a breezy, ... CD
