A wonderful lost treasure that's finally seeing the light of day! This legendary double album of songs was recorded by Gilberto Gil between 1973 and 1974 – but it was never issued at the time, having a fate that was almost similar to the Beach Boys' legendary Smile sessions! The record takes the intimacy of Gil's London LP, and opens it up with some jazzier phrasing, and nice small combo instrumentation – and since the whole thing's spread out over a double-length set of tracks, there's an amazing range to the music and ideas expressed in the set. Joyce's longtime partner Tutty Moreno is on drums, and he gives the whole thing a nice flowing groove that works well with Gil's soulful voice – and the rest of the group has a flexible style that matches Gil's changes of mood throughout the record. There's a huge amount of songs on the whole package, and the material ranges from jazzy sambas to much more avant-oriented tracks. Titles include "Maracatu Atomico", "Imbalanca", "Meditacao", "Doente, Morena", "Iansa", "O'Maria", "Tradicao", "Umeboshi", "Duplo Sentido", and "Eu Preciso Aprender A So Ser".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Nice overstuffed "best of" compilation that features work by Veloso that spans from his early Tropicalia years to the stuff he did as a pseudo-new wave artist in the early 80s. 7 cuts alone are from the pivotal year of 1968 – including "Shy Moon", "Lua De Sao ... CD

A beautiful album from Miucha – the lovely bossa singer who recorded a few albums with Tom Jobim at the end of the 70s! The album's a much more mature effort than those records – with Miucha in the lead as a sophisticated, mature singer – working through a set of tracks that ... CD
