Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Hindsight, 1978. Used
An excellent bit of 70s funk from Victor Feldman – smooth, electric, and very different from much of his other work. The set was recorded with direct to disc mastering – and has a feel that's a lot like CTI or Kudu work from the mid 70s, no surprise as the set features work by funky ... CD

Donald Byrd

Electric Byrd
Blue Note, 1970. Used
Donald Byrd in a sweet electric mode – as you'd guess from the title! The set was recorded right before Byrd's legendary run with Larry Mizell in the early 70s – and the electric approach is a bit different here – a style that blends Byrd's wonderful trumpet lines with the larger ... CD

Chick Corea

Akoustic Band
GRP, 1989. Used
In the electric universe of the GRP label, Chick Corea makes a bold move with his Akoustic Band here – even if the overall conception of the cover and the group's fashions have kind of an "electric" 80s look to it! The group here is a trio – with John Patitucci on bass and ... CD

Mose Allison

Best Of Mose Allison
Atlantic, Late 60s. Used
Groovy 20 track "best of" CD compiling tracks from his Atlantic recordings of the late 60's and early 70's, with loads of his usual cool hipster jazz vocals and New Orleans piano playing. Cuts include "Seventh Son", "Swingin' Machine", "Your Mind Is On ... CD

Art Ensemble Of Chicago

Sirius Calling
PI Recordings, 2004. Used
The last recording session by the Art Ensemble Of Chicago with Malachi Favors – done shortly before his death in early 2004, and a record that's certainly touched by his gentle soul! There's a poise here that's really great – a kind of careful and thoughtful presentation of the ... CD

Air

Air Time
Nessa, 1977. Used
One of the best albums ever by this legendary Chicago trio – a great example of the way that records on the Nessa label can really get to the heart of artists' intentions! The trio of Henry Threadgill on reeds, Fred Hopkins on bass, and Steve McCall on percussion have never sounded better ... CD
Blue Note, 1960s/1997. Used
Another one of those great Blue Note comps put together by UK djs, and a lot more sophisticated (and just plain better!) than any of the comps they put out in the U.S. The focus here is on great modal jazzy groovers, and not organ or guitar breakbeat cuts. The tracks are long, with great solos, ... CD
Relativity, 1997. Used
Debut LP from Chicago's own No ID, who produced the first two Common Sense LP's, which was largely slept on, in spite of the nice rhymes and tight beats. With guest vocals by Doug Infinite, Common and Chicago's premier vocal duo - Syndicate. 15 tracks if you count the interludes, including "S ... CD

Warner, 1969/1970. Used
2 of the best albums by this funky bandleader from LA! Both records are super-hard to find in the original, and they're laid out here back to back on one extended funky CD. Express Yourself is an undisputed classic – with hard heavy tracks like "Express Yourself", "High As ... CD
