Nina AtsukoFluorescent Lamp (2021 Japan Record Day Release) ... LP
JVC/HMV (Japan), 1987. New Copy (reissue)... $49.99 58.99
Really great work from Japanese singer Nina Atsuko – a set that's definitely got some of the pop production that you'd expect, but which also has all these nice jazzy touches in the instrumentation – which helps give the record a mature vibe that really elevates the sound! Some songs are gentle, others are upbeat and swinging – and these latter ones are the ones we really love, as they've got this 80s jazzy soul mode that's almost in the vein of some UK groups of the period, such as Working Week. Apart from the title "Illusion", all other tracks are listed in Japanese – and the language of the tunes is Japanese too. LP, Vinyl record album

JVC (Japan), 1979. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $29.99
Smooth jazzy fusion from Lee Ritenour – a classic set that was originally only released in Japan, part of the underground Japanese Fusion movement of the late 70s, famous for groove hounds for that added level of soul that often wasn't showing up in American releases at the time! ✨✧ Takeshi Onodera & Los OnoderasDynamic Latin Drums ... LP
JVC (Japan), 1972. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Excellent stuff! This Japanese album is ostensibly a set of Latin tracks, but in reality, it's a very cool set of groovy instrumentals, arranged with a good jazzy and funky feel, and with a very tight sound. There's three nice breakbeat tracks on here – "El Condor Pasa", "Dock Of The Bay", and "Spinning Wheel" – and a number of the other cuts are excellent groovers. The whole thing's a real treasure, and is the kind of thing we probably won't ever see again! LP, Vinyl record album
(Quad pressing, in non-gatefold cover.)

✨✧ Akiko YanoOngaku Wa Okurimono (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
JVC (Japan), 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A record with a title that translates as "music is a gift" – and a set that certainly feels like one from the great Akiko Yano! You might know Yano's beautiful work of the 80s, and think that she's only the subject of reissue campaigns over the years – but she still sounds wonderful here, working with small combo backing that often lets her amazing voice step out very forward in the mix – still full of all the range and color that made her so wonderful back in the day! The songwriting is great – very mature, and with a sense of focus that delivers the message well beyond the boundaries of language – a good thing too, as all the lyrics and song titles are in Japanese – save for the album's final track, "Nothing In Tow".
