LP (Item 878529) Verve (UK), 1969 — Condition: Near Mint-
Originally: 16.99
(Cover has a cutout hole, a name in pen, and light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention

One Size Fits All
DiscReet, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
Frank Zappa's got some fantastic fusion touches on this sweet little set from the 70s – thanks to keyboards and a bit of vocals from George Duke, heavy drums from Chester Thompson, and even some brief help from Johnny Guitar Watson! The set's still got a very Zappa-esque feel, but it's clear ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention

200 Motels
United Artists, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A pretty striking little record in the Frank Zappa catalog – the double-length soundtrack for the movie of the same name, and a set that explodes the Zappa palette of sound even further than some of his previous albums! A number of tracks feature a full studio orchestra – sounding as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Zappa/Mothers Of Invention

Absolutely Free
Verve, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the most mindblowing pop culture pastiches of the 60s – a record that's as absolutely mad as it is absolutely free – and proof that a whole new generation of musicians like Zappa were using the studio like an instrument itself! This is work that could have never existed away ... LP, Vinyl record album

Danyel Gerard

Danyel Gerard
Verve/MGM, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
A weird bit of folk funk rock – and a totally cool record on early 70s Verve! The album was recorded during the Mike Curb years at MGM – and has a similar pop crossover, adult hip kind of sound to some of Curb's other big success stories. The sound's an unusual blend of folk and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mothers Of Invention (Frank Zappa)

Freak Out (2LP)
Verve, 1966. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A fabulous furry freakout from Frank Zappa – the start of a legendary run in the late 60s – and a record that is still as mindblowing now as it was all those many years back! There's a deadpan quality to the vocals that's unlike anything other groups were trying for at the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Velvet Underground

White Light/White Heat
Verve, 1968. Near Mint-
One of the most far-out, freaked-out albums ever from the Velvet Underground – easily the most experimental set the group ever recorded! Ruben & The Jets (Frank Zappa)

Cruising With Ruben & The Jets
Verve, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Frank Zappa's amazing tribute to the sounds of LA that inspired him in his youth – not just the early rock and roll of the late 50s, but the way the music was picked up and given a home by the scene in East LA! There's a surprising amount of nascent soul elements in the music here – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mothers Of Invention (Frank Zappa)

We're Only In It For The Money
Verve, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
An early masterpiece from Frank Zappa – one of those records that looks like it's going to be a big ol' mess when you first see the cover – but which turns out to be a carefully calculated act of madness in the end! The Mothers have all their freeform freaky brilliance intact here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Joe White

Tony Joe White
Warner, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
Tony Joe White's terrific self-titled set for Warner in '71 – his swamp rock mastery in full swing by this point, and all the cooler on a record that finds hip working with some occasional horns and lush bits of strings! There was really no finessing the grit out of the Tony Joe show, so the ... LP, Vinyl record album
London, 1970. Near Mint-
A landmark live set from the Rolling Stones – featuring material from their smoking tour of 1969! The set really captures the Stones at their most nasty – that great turning point when their edge was maybe sharpest of ever, right in the best Let It Bleed mode – but with even more ... Badfinger

Ass
Apple, 1973. Near Mint-
A rawer Badfinger emerges on Ass – self-produced with a no frills vibe that was apparently something of a controversial way for the boys to record at the time, as Apple initially rejected it. It sounds like great rock & roll to us! Sweet melodies and tuneful songs are still the order of ... LP, Vinyl record album
