❔
Early 70s Cali country rock at its finest! This is the first album by Detroit-born, Texas-raised JD Souther – who has a deft hand for sadness-tinged songcraft, a charismatic and genuine southern drawl to his voice, and just enough grit to give his tunes the right kind of emotional undercurrent. There's a realness here that really sinks in. We sort of wish he would've shot to stardom is prominently as other Asylum singer-songwriters and his friends in The Eagles – he definitely deserves it – but there's something warm and cozy (and maybe a little selfish) about having him more to ourselves and other knowing fans. Includes "The Fast One", "Run Like A Thief", "Kite Woman", "Jesus In 3/4 Time", "It's The Same", "White Wing", "Out To Sea", "Lullaby" and more.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some ring and edge wear, center split in the spine, small scrapes and pen imprints in front, and is lightly bent at the edges.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Asylum, 1974. Near Mint-
An early one from Waits – his second album – and it's a great one! Like a lot of his early oeuvre, this is a kind of like a street-savvy, hipster cabaret affair, with less of the eccentricity that would reveal itself later in his career. Still a great record though, rendered with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tom Waits

Heartattack & Vine
Asylum, 1980. Near Mint-
Tom Waits' final album for Asylum – and one that clearly points the way towards the rawly rhythmic, murky atmospherics of his wilder Island years to come – while still bringing out the woozy, gruff balladeer of the earlier albums! It's kind of amazing that the record works as well as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tom Waits

Foreign Affairs
Asylum, 1977. Near Mint-
One of the great mid 70s albums from Tom Waits in his earlier boozy, growling balladeer mode – with lots of slower, piano-led bluesy and jazzy ballads – on top of the jivey, gravelly charisma of his voice and songwriting that already had him approaching legendary status even though he ... Black Rose
Asylum, 1976. Near Mint-
One of the sweetest singer-songwriter records of the mid 70s country rock era – beloved by fans, but largely unknown to the masses after all these years! Black Rose is JD Souther's second record, and it's a thing a beauty – produced by Peter Asher and featuring a who's who Souther's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roxy Music

Stranded
Atco, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Roxy Music's third album, and a record that really shows that the group have found a tremendous voice of their own – quite a thing to do, given the heady brew of records that were coming out in the year of 1973! There's a style here that's familiar enough to draw the listener in – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Joe White
Warner, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
Tony Joe White's terrific self-titled set for Warner in '71 – his swamp rock mastery in full swing by this point, and all the cooler on a record that finds hip working with some occasional horns and lush bits of strings! There was really no finessing the grit out of the Tony Joe show, so the ... LP, Vinyl record album
