World Of Soul

LP (Item 767491) Capitol, 1968 — Condition: Near Mint-

(Rainbow label stereo pressing. Cover has light wear, aging, and two small cutout holes.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lillo Thomas

Let Me Be Yours
Capitol, 1983. Very Good+
A real 80s groover from Lillo Thomas – plenty of keyboards, snapping rhythms, and a sweetly gliding rhythm that beautifully supports Thomas' high-pitched vocals! The style owes a fair bit to territory first hit by Michael Jackson at the end of the 70s, but it still sounds surprisingly great ... LP, Vinyl record album

Let It Be Me
Capitol, 1987. Sealed
Audrey Wheeler's debut album – a really top-shelf effort crafted after years of lending her vocals to other folks' records, and a classic early stint in the group Unlimited Touch! Preston Glass handled production, and the set's about as sharp as can be for a mainstream soul album of the time ... LP, Vinyl record album

Meli'sa Morgan

Good Love
Capitol, 1987. Sealed
Meli'sa Morgan doing what she does best – pushing the envelope for mainstream soul, but often in really subtle ways! Norman Connors

Passion
Capitol, 1988. Near Mint-
Late 80s – but Norman's still the king of the mellow soul groove! Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Very Good-
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! Malaco, 1984. Sealed
Electro 80s grooving from southern funk act Freedom – a record that shows that even the Malaco scene could pick up on bass licks, synth drums, and other production techniques being used heavily up north at the time!
