We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Latin American Suite
Fantasy, 1972. Near Mint-
A killer album – one of Duke Ellington's best from the later years! Fantasy, 1954. Very Good+
A lean, and nicely spare mid 50s set by vibes player Norvo, with bassist Red Mitchell, and Jimmy Raney on guitar. Red's vibes are way up front on most of the tracks, but leave plenty of space for the other players to shine. 8 tracks in all: "Can't We Be Friends", "Blues For ... LP, Vinyl record album

In The Pocket
Fantasy, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
Although this should be a "sell out" album for Stan – because it's got his tenor set amidst some sweeping larger arrangements – it's actually still a pretty dope little LP, and one that shows Turrentine's capacity for hitting a nice groove in kind of a soundtrack-y funk vein. ... Red Norvo Trio
Fantasy, 1954. Very Good
Great lean grooves from vibist Red Norvo – exactly the kind or record that shows why he was such an amazing talent on his instrument in the 50s! Intimacy Of The Blues
Fantasy, 1967/1970. Near Mint-
A slightly smaller take on the Ellington sound – but one that's still a bit fuller than you might guess from the "Small Bands" on the cover! There's definitely a more intimate feel here than usual – especially given the size of ensembles Duke was working with in the 60s ... LP, Vinyl record album
Raven Speaks
