Wide-roaming grooves from the great Jerome Richardson – a player who's done countless dates in later groups, but hardly ever gets to shine as a leader! On this excellent Prestige session, Jerome's stepping out in some long, open-ended tracks that are a great change from the usual – really burning the midnight oil with his soulful work on tenor, plus a bit of flute and baritone sax as well – supported by a very hip rhythm section that includes Richard Wyands on piano, George Tucker on bass, and Charlie Persip on drums! There's almost a blowing session feel to the record – given the focus on letting Richardson roam around – although the overall quality is a bit tighter overall – on tunes that include "Friar Tuck", "Up At Teddy's Hill", "Warm Valley", "I Never Knew", and "Candied Sweets". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
