CD

✈
The complete Everest recordings of drummer Jo Jones – served up on one double-length CD! The first 12 tracks on the set are from 1958's Jo Jones Trio – a real classic from the legendary drummer, and the kind of a spare session that really lets his work on drums come to the forefront! Jo's working here with Ray Bryant on piano and brother Tommy Bryant on bass – in a mode that's got some of the soulful undercurrents of the Bryant recordings of the time, but which is also a bit more rhythmically-oriented – in a way that let's Jones' swinging skills dominate a bit more. Titles include "Jive At Five", "Greensleeves", "Philadelphia Bound", "I Got Rhythm", "Bebop Irishman", and "Little Susie". The remaining 12 tracks on the CD are from the album Vamp Til Ready – recorded in 1960, and featuring Jones in sextet formation with Harry Edison on trumpet, Bennie Green on trombone, Jimmy Forrest on tenor, and Tommy Flanagan on piano. There's a lively swinging feel to the set – one that's somewhere between the Verve sound of the mid 50s, and the Prestige/Swingville mode of the time. Jones' drums are a key part of the energy of the album – bristling along with a sharp-edged energy that makes even the mellow tunes relatively lively – and Jo lets the horn players get in plenty of nice licks on the set, a feature that we especially like when Forrest gets a chance to solo! Titles include "Should I", "Sandy's Body", "Show Time", "Liza", "Royal Garden Blues", "Mozelle's Alley", "Sox Trot", and "In The Forrest". Both albums produced by Raymond Scott, too!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
