Touch Of Teddy Wilson

LP (Item 667511) Verve, 1957 — Condition: Near Mint-

Teddy Wilson's touch is lean and clean here – about as fluid as we remember it from the 50s – beautifully recorded with just the right sound for his sensitive moments and freer flights on the keys! Rhythm is from Arvell Shaw on bass and Roy Burns on drums – and although most of the tunes are older chestnuts, Wilson handles them with that famously impeccable sound – a strongly rhythmic approach at most moments, leaping along the keys of the piano, but never too hard or too far at once. Titles include "Avalon", "S Wonderful", "If You Are But A Dream", "Bye Bye Blues", "Sunny Morning", "Talking To The Moon", and "Dream House".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(MGM pressing. Cover has light wear and a cutout hole.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Verve, 1959. Very Good+
Duke Ellington makes a rare Verve appearance on this classic album – and works strongly in the mode of earlier sides recorded for the label by Johnny Hodges! Cal Tjader

Doxy
Verve, 1960s. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Groovy 2LP set that brings together some of Cal's best Latiny sides for Verve – tracks that shine and sparkle with wit, imagination, and just plain groove! Verve, 1957. Very Good
A really great pairing – and a rare non-Brubeck Paul Desmond session from the 50s! Getz Meets Mulligan In Hi Fi
Verve, 1958. Very Good

The sound of the trio is loud and clear on this set – captured before a very appreciative crowd at the London House in Chicago, and featuring Peterson at his inventive best! Verve, Early 50s. Sealed
We can't decide whether we like Bird better in the small seminal bop quintets he led, or blowing fiery solos over larger arrangements buoyed by strings. Fortunately these sets, compiled from 10" LPs bring together some of both, though as you might guess from the title, they do lean heavily ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, Mid 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
A collection of sides cut in the mid 60s by Wes during his association with Verve. Verve, 1967. Very Good Gatefold
Although the set's a groovy batch of shorter jazz tracks, with larger arrangements by Jimmy Jones, Hodges still solos nicely, and with that trademark tone that always cuts through the b.s.! Musical Safari
Booman, 1961/1980s. Very Good+
Later issue of a crack live set that was recorded in 1961, when Dizzy had a young Lalo Schifrin in his group, playing the piano, and providing these great arrangements that broke Dizzy out of the be bop bag, and into a more Afro Latin groove.
