❔

Creedence Clearwater Revival at the height of their powers – working in this amazing style that has roots in the swamp rock world of the late 50s, but which is produced with a gritty, almost trippy sort of quality – a mode that uses plenty of echo to really make this magic around the edges of the music! John Fogerty's vocals and guitar are razor-sharp throughout – and some of the album's lesser-known gems really help you situate the sound of the group past their hits – as a way of getting at the power they brought to the Cali scene when they first emerged. Titles include the classic "Bad Moon Rising" – plus "Green River", "Commotion", "Wrote A Song For Everyone", "Lodi", "Cross Tie Walker", and "Sinister Purpose".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label Fantasy pressing.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Bayou Country
Fantasy, 1969. Very Good+
Creedence Clearwater Revival may not have actually been born on the bayou – they were long-timers in the San Francisco scene of the 60s – but they do a hell of a job of reinventing swamp rock on this second stunning album! The quartet are a masterpiece of spare, unbridled power – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Fantasy, Late 60s. Very Good+
The stunning debut of CCR – a record that still burns with an undeniable fire after all these years! Peace Before We Die
Fantasy, Early 70s. Near Mint-
A really unusual record on Fantasy – done at the time the label was scoring big with CCR, but also was able to issue lesser-known Bay Area talents like James Trumbo! David Bowie

Aladdin Sane
RCA, 1973. Very Good+
One of our favorite David Bowie albums ever! Aladdin Sane was a real turning point for Bowie – recorded on the heels of the tremendously popular Ziggy Stardust album, but really pushing the boundaries past the more straight-ahead rock and glam of that record.
