New Faces New Sounds – Piano Interpretations By Wynton Kelly

CD (Item 600499) Blue Note, 1951 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

✈
A rare early 10" session by Wynton Kelly – who's working here in a trio format with Oscar Pettiford on bass and Lee Abrams on drums! The tracks are intimate and introspective, with Kelly holding back his bop chops a bit to break out in other moods on the keyboard – definitely the "new sounds" promised by the cover, as the set's sharp enough to be considered with the best Blue Note piano work from the time. The cover is an excellent Gil Melle abstract design – and titles include "Moonlight In Vermont", "Good Bye", "Born To Be Blue", and "Blue Moon".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

It's All Right!
Verve, 1964. Used
A tight little groover from Wynton Kelly – one of a few mid 60s gems done for Verve in a style that's harder-hitting and more focused than some of Kelly's other work! The record's got an approach that's a bit pop, but plenty darn soulful too – a style that focuses the already-great ... CD

McCoy Tyner

Tender Moments
Blue Note (Japan), 1967. Used
An incredibly strong set by McCoy Tyner – one of his best late 60s sides for Blue Note – and a record that really hints at the majesty he'd attain on record in the 70s! The album features Tyner's piano at the head of a large group that includes Lee Morgan on trumpet, Julian Priester on ... CD
Blue Note, Late 50s. Used
One of the few rare non-trio recordings done by Powell from around this time.
