The law of music here is a pretty personal one to Matthew Shipp – a sense of relations and reactions between his piano, the bass of William Parker, and violin of Mat Maneri – all coming together in a relatively moody, brooding sort of way! As with most of Shipp's best music from the time, there's an inner logic here that really hangs the whole thing together – a way of being that's quite different than the freedom you might guess at first listen – and which comes across especially well in the interplay between his piano work and the bass of Parker.
