Quite an interesting slice of Miles Davis – live material from the brief time when Sonny Stitt was working with the Davis group in 1960! The pairing of Miles & Sonny has been heard a bit more famously (although still relatively obscurely) on a similar live set from Sweden, recorded around the same time – but this batch of tracks is from an even rarer date in Manchester – cut at the Free Trade Hall, on September 27, 1960. Stitt's working here with the group that included Paul Chambers, Wynton Kelly, and Jimmy Cobb on rhythm – and the tracks are mostly longish, with a few shorter numbers that are often focused most strongly on Miles' presence as lead soloist. Titles include "All Blues", "All Of You", "Walkin", "Autumn Leaves", "So What", "Stardust", and 2 takes of "Four". Added to these numbers are 3 more bonus tracks from a 1963 St Louis date that features George Coleman on tenor, with the Davis quintet that included Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams.
