A real standout set from Bobby Timmons – one of his few non-trio sessions as a leader, and a record that crackles with the same sort of energy he brought to his work with the Jazz Messengers! Of course, that's no surprise – as the quartet on the set includes Bobby's boss at the time, drummer Art Blakey – as well as always-great bassist Sam Jones (who Bobby worked with in the Cannonball Adderley group), and trumpeter Blue Mitchell, stepping out nicely on top to give the album a well-rounded and soulful spirit. The set includes some great originals, too – the kind of rolling Timmons' numbers that made him one of the freshest writers of his generation – as you'll hear on "So Tired", "Soul Time", "Stella B", and "One Mo'".
