JJ's Broadway is a-ok with us – a hip mix of small group tunes, played with the great Walter Perkins on drums, and handled with a much more complicated approach than most other "jazz meets Broadway" type albums! About half the tracks feature a quartet with Perkins on drums, plus Hank Jones piano and Richard Davis on bass – and these numbers really swing with a wonderful open-ended groove. The rest of the set has a larger group with Jones, Perkins, and Chuck Israels on bass – plus additional trombones behind the solo work of Johnson.
